Does God Exist? Did Science Just Discovered God?

I have been asked this question quite a lot by Atheists, “Why should I possibly believe in God? In this scientific age, how can we believe in some invisible man in the sky?” In an interview with Reuters, the theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking says “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going.” Are the Atheists right? Well, I do believe in God and the idea that science actually disproves God couldn’t be further from the truth. In this article, I will share with you some reasons from science, philosophy and the Bible which completely supports God’s existence:

The Scientific and Logical Arguments For God

Scientists have informed us that the universe began to exist – an idea which was absurd a few decades ago, when mainstream science held on to the view that the universe was eternal. There are several scientific reasons which insinuate that this universe had a beginning but to be brief I will share two major ones with you:

i) According to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, we know that they universe is loosing energy, think of this energy like the “gas” for your “car” – the universe is steadily loosing this “gas.” More specifically, the universe is wearing out – all useful energy to do work is being converted into entropy (decay or disorder). So our universe’s energy is decreasing while the entropy is increasing. And the Bible actually serves as a witness to this:

Psalms 102:25, 26
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

If it was possible for us to somehow record all the energy consumption of this universe over its history then we would recognize that in the past there was once a moment, when there was maximum energy available to do work. It also follows that at this exact moment the measure of entropy or decay was zero. This proves that the universe indeed had a beginning – the universe cannot be operating forever – the scientific evidence contradicts this.

ii) In 1905, Albert Einstein developed the Special Theory of Relativity as a result of measurements of length, velocity and time from moving observers and light. This data led him to develop the famous correlation that we know as E=mc^2. Ten years later, Einstein applied this theory to Newtonian physics and thus the theory of General Relativity was born. In fact, Einstein’s work pointed to the expansion of the universe and its beginning, however, his pantheistic beliefs made it difficult for him to come to terms with this conclusion – but the implications of his work did not go unnoticed. In the 1920’s a Russian mathematician named, Alexander Friedmann, took hold of Einstein’s theory of General Relativity and proposed that the universe was expanding. It was finally in 1929, that Edwin Hubble made a very fascinating discovery, he discovered that the universe indeed seems to be showing signs of expansion. He came to this conclusion after observing the red-shift from galaxies moving away from ours – think of this like an ambulance with its siren on driving past your car and you hear the distortion in the sound as it comes to you and the other unique distortion in the sound when it finally passes your car (this effect is called the Doppler Effect). Red-shift in the galaxies is like a “unique distortion” in electromagnetic radiation like light, which indicates that they are moving away from us. So, we know that the universe is expanding, which I must let you know is another fact found in the Bible:

Jeremiah 10:12
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

Job 9:8
Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

edwin-hubble-mount-wilson-observatory So the universe is expanding, you may think of it like a balloon, if we were able to record the edges of the universe and trace the expansion back through history we would reach a single region (just like when an inflated balloon is deflated). From these two scientific facts – the expansion of the universe and the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics – among many others, we have confirmation that the universe had a beginning.

iii) If those two proofs somehow failed to satisfy your skepticism about the universe having a beginning, then I will offer you a powerful philosophical proof. If the universe never had a beginning, then the universe is eternal – if it is eternal then there is neither an “ending of time” nor a “beginning of time.” Without a beginning or an ending of time, then there would be no such thing as the “present” that we experience today. What do I mean by this? I will try to illustrate this concept with an analogy, it goes like this – let us just imagine that the universe is an “athlete” running a race along a “circular track.” We are observing this athlete running around and around the track without end. This athlete has a problem, he is running around and around…and getting tired, he must stop – but the greater problem is this – there is no finish line, because the circular track is an infinite closed-loop. Likewise, the opposite is true, if there is no finish line then there is no starting line and this athlete would not know where to begin his race – every moment he sets off to run he must run backwards due to the fact that there is no starting point. As such this athlete must run backwards forever. Now, is it logical for an athlete to run both forward and backwards simultaneously? So, logically this universe must have a beginning and must have an end our “athlete,” the universe, is getting tired (2nd Law of Thermodynamics). In addition to this, for us to arrive to the present we must logically have a beginning. So, it is completely reasonable to conclude that the universe does in fact require a beginning and likewise an end.

Now, that I have established that the universe has a beginning, we can proceed to the interesting part. We know that the universe has three elements – space, time and matter – which all began simultaneously. Why do we need all thee elements to occur simultaneously? Well, if you only had matter, then WHERE will you house it? If you only had space and matter then WHEN would it begin? Also if you only had space, then WHAT will you fill it with? So yes, all three elements must emerge at once. With all that said, we know that the universe had a beginning, I have cited two reasons above, as such it must have a cause. Why does the universe need a cause? We know that a building is designed by an architect and a watch is made by a watchmaker. Likewise, if this universe was “wound” up like a clock and we observe it “winding” down, then it follows that there must be a “winder.” But let us look at the attributes of this first cause – this first cause:

a) Transcends Time/ Eternal/ Timeless
b) Transcends Space/ Spaceless
c) Transcends Matter/ Immaterial
d) Is Omnipotent
e) Has A Will

Why must it be timeless, spaceless, and immaterial? Because it created this universe and must be completely independent of those elements. Why must it be omnipotent? It must be so in order to have the ability to create the universe. Why must it have will or desire? This cause has a will for two reasons 1) The power to create (omnipotence) must be acted upon by will 2) An eternal cause creating a temporal universe, instead of an eternal universe, is a signature of will. The ability to will is an attribute which belongs only to persons and hence this cause must be personal. Well, who is this first cause? This first cause is God! Correct! Because only God is eternal, immaterial, spaceless, omnipotent, intelligent and personal. This argument that I have used here proving the existence of God is called the “Cosmological Argument.”

Common Objections To The Cosmological Argument:

1) What if this first cause was created by another cause? This question is reasonable as it opens up the possibility of asking if the other cause had a cause and on and on to infinity – producing what is called an infinite regression. However, this fallacy is self-refuting because it ponders on the possibility of this cause’s creation/source? If such is the case, then WHEN will it be created? After all, this cause is transcendent of time and the universe. The answer would be no, because it is eternal, such a question would have only applied to a cause that was bound by time, space and matter. But if the answer “no” still does not satisfy that answer, then Occam’s Razor will simply shave off any need for an infinite sequence of causes, because Occam’s Razor states that the conclusion with the fewest assumptions is oftentimes the correct one.

2) What if there was no cause for the beginning of the universe? This objection actually tries to suggest that something comes from nothing. But how can this be logical purely based on naturalistic processes? In the case of the universe, before it began there was no potentiality. But how can it logically become a reality without even having its potentiality, if no supernatural miracle occurred? If something comes from nothing, then this nothing is actually something. So rather, the argument is still something coming from something – an effect like the creation of the universe emerging from a cause.

3) What if the universe had no beginning? I would be shocked if anyone still believed this, despite, the fact that I have completely proved this idea is false – logically and scientifically. If you are still not convinced, then I will have no choice but to direct you to this other article here.

Are The Descriptions of The God of The Bible Consistent With This First Cause or Creator of The Universe?

Well, this question can be easily answered – yes – I am sure you are thinking, “Well that was anticlimactic,” but the answer is really that simple – this God claims to be the Creator of Heaven and Earth:

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Colossians 1:16, 17
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Nehemiah 9:6
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

pillars of creation

Therefore, this God clearly demonstrates that He is eternal, immaterial, spaceless, omnipotent, intelligent and personal. We know that the God of the Bible is eternal:

2 Timothy 1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Isaiah 46:9, 10
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done,
saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Fulfilled Bible prophecy is solid proof that He is indeed eternal or outside of time. Furthermore, the attribute of timelessness also inherently implies the attribute of being changeless – God cannot change. Do I have biblical proof? Of course:

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

This proof actually disqualifies the Allah of the Qur’an as being the true God and discredits the notion that Allah is the same as my God, because Allah can change his mind! The doctrine of abrogation is a clear proof of this:

Surah 2:106
We (Allah) do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?

How can God possibly change His mind on the wording of His scripture? Shouldn’t He get things perfect the very first time? In any case, I digress, God is immaterial because He tells us that He is a Spirit:

John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Now, is the God of the Bible spaceless? Some of these attributes are clearly hinted in the following scriptures:

Isaiah 66:1
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

John 1:1, 3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Some Christians make the error of saying that Heaven is God’s home but Isaiah 66:1, makes it clear that Heaven is not His home it is more like a house that He created Himself! There is a subtle difference between a house and a home – you can live without a house but you depend on a home. As such, God is indeed spaceless, and this is also confirmed by John 1:3, for God created “all things” by default He must have created space, so this indirectly proves that He is inherently spaceless.

God is omnipotent, I think that the clearest indication of this is the fact that God spoke the universe into existence. My God spoke it into existence, unlike the Hindu god Shiva who claims to need to dance for the universe to exist during his Tandava and also needs to dance upon the demon, Apasmara:

Genesis 1:3, 6, 9
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

let there be light

Psalms 33:6
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Psalms 148:5
Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

In fact, one of the original meanings of the word “universe” is believed to be, “single spoken sentence.” Now, concerning the question of God’s intelligence and personhood, the following scriptures provide obvious evidence for this:

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Isaiah 45:5, 22
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

The personal pronouns like “me,” “I” and the telltale signs of will is riddled in those three verses like choosing to strengthen us, saving us, helping us – is obviously pointing to personhood. We have a will and are capable of love and emotions, as such, it should not be a surprise when we learn that the God of the Bible bears this same characteristic – He tells us that we are like this, because of Him in Genesis 1:27!

Finally, the universe is fine-tuned, a fact that no intelligent scientist will ever deny, even the Earth was positioned in a place where it is not too close and not too far from the sun – the “Goldilocks Zone.” These various proofs of fine-tuning are collectively called the Anthropic Principle and is proof that God is in fact personal because it strongly implies will, foreknowledge and intelligence. The Bible is riddled with some very curious passages where God is described as “measuring,” “weighing,” “balancing” all of these terms absolutely confirm that He was the One who did the fine-tuning of the universe:

Isaiah 40:12
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Proverbs 30:4
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if thou canst tell?

Isaiah 45:18
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

What About The Multiple Universe (Multiverse) Theory? It Proves There is No God

First of all, the parallel universe theory also known as multiverse theory is just that – it is a theory. A theory is merely a collection of ideas which aim to explain an event, so this multiverse theory merely tries to explain the origin of the universe. It is not a scientific fact, the theory was designed to provide an “escape-hatch” or “cop-out” for those who realize that the compound probability of the universe beginning and life emerging is extremely close to zero. In fact, just the compound probability of life emerging on Earth is virtually zero this other article explains right here. Furthermore, this theory exits science and enters into the realm of philosophy and pseudoscience, as it is impossible to empirically prove that there are many universes. We as human beings are bound by time, space and matter – we are bound by this universe and, as such, we can never observe any other universe (if such exist).

multiverse - each ball is a universe

However, this theory has not stopped some scientists from embracing it. One of the most common explanations for the multiverse is this analogy – they tell us that our universe, as well as many others, are being massively produced by some sort of “undiscovered law of physics” which they portray as a “gumball machine” churning out an infinite number of gumballs – each gumball being a potential universe. Why is this unfounded explanation necessary? Because the clear fine-tuning that we observe in our universe hints too much to God. This explanation attempts to deny God by producing several universes – some universes come out perfectly like ours and some do not even produce or sustain life. The video embedded above (at the end of the last section), “The Fine Tuning of the Universe,” explains this theory very well. Stephen Hawking believes in this theory, and that something can actually come from nothing:

“Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.” – Stephen Hawking in his interview with Reuters, “God did not create the universe, says Hawking.”

But his statement is false, gravity does not create matter, in fact none of the laws of physics ever create, rather they act on the things that are already created in the universe. C.S. Lewis, a brilliant writer and academic, describes the dilemma that individuals like Stephen Hawking and even Lawrence Krauss, another theoretical physicist, faces concerning the laws of physics:

“They produce no events: they state the pattern to which every event – if only it can be induced to happen – must conform, just as the rules of arithmetic state the pattern to which all transactions with money must conform – if only you can get hold of any money. Thus in one sense the laws of Nature cover the whole field of space and time; in another, what they leave out is precisely the whole real universe – the incessant torrent of actual events which makes up true history. That must come from somewhere else. To think the laws can produce it is like thinking that you can create real money by simply doing sums. For every law, in the last resort, says: If you have A, then you will get B.” But first catch your A: the laws won’t do it for you.” – C.S. Lewis in “Miracles” cited by John C. Lennox on p.42 of “God and Stephen Hawking: Whose Design Is It Anyway?”

It should be no surprise that Richard Dawkins has completely swallowed this idea whole – that the universe can come from “nothing,” which is based on the union (or illegitimate child) of Quantum Mechanics and the theory of General Relativity, commonly publicized by Lawrence Krauss. Richard Dawkins still persists in repeating this mantra, despite, the fact that Lawrence Krauss is not actually talking about “nothing” – he actually refers to “something” called “quantum fluctuations.” However, Krauss deceptively calls it “nothing,” and abuses the scientific terms in this theory, in order to avoid the clear supernatural implications of a universe with a beginning. The truth is that the multiverse theory does not even eliminate God, this idea that a “law of physics” or some sort of “gumball machine” spitting out universes never truly denies God at all and I will show you why. Please take a look of the traits of this alleged “undiscovered law of physics.” This law:

a) Transcends Time/ Eternal/ Timeless
b) Transcends Space/ Spaceless
c) Transcends Matter/ Immaterial
d) Is Omnipotent

This “law of physics” may not have will, but it still fits the profile of the first cause of the universe. Some of you may already realize where I am going with this. This so-called “law of physics” in the multiverse theory is in a sense God or perhaps His thoughts (which are abstract/immaterial)! Albeit, it is superficially God because it bears all the attributes of the Creator God, it is fundamentally not my God – it is a man-made god – which the Bible calls an “idol” – this is just modern-day idolatry folks (Ecclesiastes 1:9, 10)! Are Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss actually theists but do not know it yet? I actually think so…But what can be said about the multiverse theory and the deceptive mantra that something can come from nothing? Maybe Richard Swinburne, a British philosopher and Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Oxford University can sum this all up better than I can:

“Multiple universe theory represents the height of irrationality” – Richard Swinburne in “The Existence of God,” p. 165.

If you want my opinion, I was thinking more along the lines that the multiverse theory is, “a fairy-tale which Atheists believe in,” but Swinburne’s description will do just nicely.

What If The Cause of The Universe Is The Flying Spaghetti Monster?

flying spaghetti monster

I am sure that a clever Atheist in a last-ditch attempt will say, “Okay, if there is a cause for the universe, then what would stop the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) from being this cause?” My response to this question is simple. If you believe that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe then by default you are saying that it has the attributes of being timeless, spaceless, immaterial, omnipotent and personal – you are no longer an Atheist, my friend, you are now a Theist. This is merely a colourful, humorous and idolatrous description of God. The same rule applies if the “Flying Spaghetti Monster” is replaced by a “gumball machine,” “computer,” “law of physics,” “fairy,” “invisible man in the sky,” “flying invisible skittles bag in the sky,” etc.

This is all just a childish mockery of God, but believe me God will not be mocked, He will have the final say…one day:

Galatians 6:7, 8
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Closing Thoughts

I have shown that the notion that science actually disproves God is just absurd. The fact that the universe has a beginning absolutely verifies the existence of God:

“The beginning seems to present insuperable difficulties unless we agree to look on it as frankly supernatural.” – Sir Arthur Eddington in “The Expanding Universe,” p. 178. (Keep note that Sir Arthur Eddington was one of the most influential astrophysicists in the 20th century)

“As we survey all the evidence, the thought insistently arises that some supernatural agency – or, rather, Agency – must be involved. Is it possible that suddenly, without intending to, we have stumbled upon scientific proof of the existence of a Supreme Being? Was it God who stepped in and so providentially crafted the cosmos for our benefit?” – George S. Greenstein cited by Fred Heeren in “Show Me God: What the Message from Space Is Telling Us About God,” p. 233. (a professor of Astrophysics in the University of Amherst in the Massacheusetts in USA)

Romans 1:20-22, 25
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Now, that it has been established that the Creator God does exist, the question we need to answer is this: Who is this Creator God? I have touched on this already here, but in my next article I will make the case that the God of the Bible is in fact this Creator God, beyond all reasonable doubt! Please do not miss my next article – I am actually getting excited just thinking about it. Feel free to like, follow, and share this with all of your friends and family. God bless!

Woe Unto Us, For Judah’s Scepter Has Departed And The Messiah Has Not Appeared!

I have recognized that for some odd reason Christians usually hesitate to write material on Jews, possibly in fear of offending them. Nevertheless, God has burdened me to write this and a few spiritual attacks from the enemy has delayed me from doing so. If you are Jewish and reading this, please do not think that I write this out of hate, I only do this out of love and my desire to expose the truth. Ever since I was a child, I asked myself the question why do Jews reject Jesus – I have done my research – but I find the reasons for doing so are severely lacking in my opinion, so in this article I will provide the first of several undeniable pieces of evidence which proves that Jesus is the Messiah.

What I am about to share with you is perhaps one of the most powerful proofs that Jesus is in fact the Messiah, a proof which many Jews may have never even heard. In the Book of Genesis chapter 49, we read about Jacob  blessing each of his sons – most Jews are familiar with this story, some Christians are not. When Jacob arrived at the blessing for Judah he made this remark which also turns out to be an amazing prophecy (Genesis 49:1):

Genesis 49:8-11
Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

jacob blessing his sons

From Genesis 49:10 we learn that two things were to occur immediately after the arrival of the Messiah or Shiloh:

1) The Departure of the scepter of Judah or its identity: “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah…”
2) The Suppression of Judicial Power: “…nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come.”

First of all, the “sceptre” that we see in the prophecy, according to the Rabbis, was a “tribal staff” or “tribal identity,” this granted the Jews the power to render justice on those who broke the Mosaic Law and exact capital punishment on the guilty or “jus gladii” – a legal term which simply means “to seek the death punishment for a crime.” As such, this prophecy actually gives us a time limit for the arrival of the Messiah, so the Messiah would only arrive just before the Jews lost this special authority. Please keep in mind that this prophecy also eliminates anyone else from claiming to be the Messiah after these two above requirements have been satisfied.

From 606-537 B.C., Judah was made captive by the Babylonians for 70 years, which is commonly known as the Babylonian captivity. Judah had lost their national sovereignty but had retained its identity as a judge that can demand punishment (McDowell, 1979), this is confirmed within the Book of Ezra, where we learn that they had judges and individuals in place to uphold the law (Ezra 7:25, 26). Even while under the oppression of the Medo-Persians, Greeks and Roman Empire for the next 500 centuries, Judah had never lost its identity.

It was only until the very first quarter of the 1st century A.D., that something interesting happened – and I am not even referring to Jesus! Josephus, a 1st century Jewish historian, tells us in chapter 13 of his book “Antiquities of the Jews XVII” and within “The Jewish War,” that around the year 6 A.D. or 7 A.D., the son of king Herod, Herod Archelaus, was dethroned and exiled to Vienna, a city of Gaul. Herod Archelaus was then quickly replaced by a Roman Procurator named Caponius by Caesar Augustus.

I am sure that a Jew reading this would tell me, “Genesis 49:10 was not directed to the Messiah, and that this interpretation is one of many misinterpretations of scripture made by Christians,” – I must say that this is not only my opinion, but it is that of many Ancient Rabbis and trusted Hebrew literature. Within the Targum Yerushalmi, a well respected Hebrew translation and commentary on the Torah, we see this same interpretation of this verse,

“Kings shall not cease from the house of Judah…until the time of the coming of the King Messiah…to whom all the dominions of the earth shall become subservient.” – pg. 8 of Levy (1974)

With respect to the above quote, Herod Archelaus and his father, Herod the Great, were nominal Jews. Herod the Great, in particular was named “King of the Jews” by Augustus, therefore both son and father were the last Jewish kings before leadership was handed over to the Gentiles (Richardson, 1999). Within the Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 98b, Rabbi Johanan said,

“The world was created…for the sake of the Messiah, what is this Messiah’s name? The school of Rabbi Shila said: His name is Shiloh, for it is written, until Shiloh come.'”

As such we see that the first requirement was indeed satisfied, but what about the second requirement? Is there any confirmation that Jews did indeed lose the power to uphold the law and serve capital punishment? Yes, according to Levy (1974), with this change in leadership the right to take the life of a law-breaker was stripped from the Sanhedrin and given to Rome. This was the custom of Rome whenever it seized absolute control  as Tacitus, a Roman historian, once said, “The Romans reserved to themselves the right of the sword, and neglected all else (McDowell, 1979).” Even the Jerusalem Talmud confirms that this indeed happened:

“A little more than forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the power of pronouncing capital sentences was taken away from the Jews.” – Jerusalem Talmud, Sanhedrin, folio 24

The following source is also quite telling, we find it within chapter 9 of Josephus’ book, Antiquities of the Jews Book XX,

“After the death of the procurator Festus, when Albinus was about to succeed him , the high priest Ananias considered it a favorable opportunity to assembly the Sanhedrin. He therefore caused James the Brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, and several others, to appear before this hastily assembled council, and pronounced upon them the sentence of death by stoning. All the wise men and strict observers of the law who were at Jerusalem expressed their disapprobation of this act…Some even went to Albinus himself, who had departed to Alexandria, to bring this breach of the law under his observation, and to inform him that Ananius had acted illegally in assembling the Sanhedrin without the Roman authority.”

This passage above not only gives us a clear confirmation that the Jews had lost the power to exact punishment but it even goes further to confirm that Jesus and James, His half-brother, were genuine historical figures! James was recorded to have been killed no later than 69 A.D. so this at least limits the departure of judicial power to no time after than that date. Of course, the informed Christian and Jew may know that the Bible actually provides additional confirmation for the quote from the Jerusalem Talmud, that the judicial power to serve capital punishment had already departed just before Jesus’ trial. We all know that the Jews needed to go to Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, in order to get permission to execute Jesus for his “blasphemies” as the gospels tells us (John 10:30-33):

John 18:28
Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

In spite of all this, one of the most significant parts of this prophecy was the events that unfolded once the Jewish leadership recognized that the scepter had departed and the Messiah did not appear to have arrived. It was such a sorrowful affair that was recorded in Chapter 4, folio 37 of the Babylonian Talmund and by Augustin Lemann in his book, “Jesus Before the Sanhedrin,” which reports a comment made by Rabbi Rachmon:

“When the members of the Sanhedrin found themselves deprived of their right over life and death, a general consternation took possession of them: they covered their heads with ashes, and their bodies with sackcloth, exclaiming: ‘Woe unto us for the scepter has departed from Judah and the Messiah has not come.'”
rabbis in sack cloth and ashes

Little did the Jewish leaders know that while they were mourning  on the streets of Jerusalem, that the Messiah was already a young man growing up in a carpenter’s shop in Nazareth by the name of Jesus. What is the conclusion here? Jesus must have been the Messiah without a shadow of doubt! The prophecy of Genesis 29:10 is remarkably specific and limits the Messiah’s arrival to just before the departure of the scepter of Judah and the Jewish power to set capital punishment – so specific that anyone who will claim or has claimed to be Messiah after these events would instantly fail this particular prophecy. I would imagine that Jews who still dare to reject Jesus, in spite of this article, would be quite open to the idea that God’s Law can become null or that His word can become void a false accusation which Jews often brand Biblical Christianity with. Please remember to take a look at the video which opens this article, because it powerfully explores the relationship between Judaism, Christianity and the Messiah:

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Isaiah 55:10, 11
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Does The Qur’an Admit That Jesus Is God? The Truth Will Shock You!

I wrote this article out of love and for the sake of Muslims, who believe that Jesus Christ – the one called Isa Ibn Maryam in the Qur’an – was just a mere prophet. Many Muslims are completely unaware that their Qur’an actually suggests – quite often – that the Messiah is God! If you are a Muslim and reading this, then I must warn you that this article will completely change your view of Jesus Christ. If you happen to be a Christian reading this, I would imagine that this would be useful for those who are budding Christian apologists or just curious to learn about the Jesus of the Qur’an. In this post, I will offer 20 proofs from the Qur’an which confirm Jesus’ divinity:

1) Only Allah Is Equal to His Word
2) Only Allah Is Equal to His Spirit
3) Only Allah Can Create
4) Only Allah Is Omniscient
5) Only Allah Is Judge and Ruler
6) Only Allah Is Healer
7) Only Allah Has Power Over Life and Death
8) Only Allah Speaks In Parables
9) Only Allah Can Escape From Our Vision
10) Only Allah Should be Worshiped? The Qur’an Does Not Say That!
11) Only Allah Can Send Messengers And Give Them Power
12) Only Allah’s Throne is Upon the Water
13) Only Allah Is Our Provider
14) Only Allah is Unique
15) Only Allah is Eternal
16) Hints of Jesus’ Preexistence
17) Only Allah is the Most Gracious and Most Merciful
18) Only Allah Commands Authority
19) Only Allah Has Glory
20) Only Allah’s Servants Will Prevail? Which Servants?

1) Only Allah Is Equal to His Word

The Qur’an tells us that Allah is both eternal and infinite:

Surah 112:1, 2
Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;

Surah 57:3
He is the First and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent: and He has full knowledge of all things.

In this same Qur’an we have a very fascinating description for the Messiah:

Surah 4:171
…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers…

Surah 3:39
While he was standing in prayer in the chamber, the angels called unto him: “Allah doth give thee glad tidings of Yahya, witnessing the truth of a Word from Allah, and (be besides) noble, chaste, and a prophet,- of the (goodly) company of the righteous.”

Surah 3:45
Behold! the angels said: “O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

The Messiah is described above as the ‘Word of God,’ a title which is completely unique to any man or prophet of Allah. The implication of this is that if Jesus was indeed the Word of God, then He would be eternal! Why? Because the Qur’an teaches that the Word of Allah is forever and can never change!:

Surah 6:115
The word of thy Lord doth find its fulfilment in truth and in justice: None can change His words: for He is the one who heareth and knoweth all.

Surah 10:64
For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme felicity.

Surah 18:27
And recite (and teach) what has been revealed to thee of the Book of thy Lord: none can change His Words, and none wilt thou find as a refuge other than Him.

So, as you may see in the above Surahs, because Allah’s words can never change the conclusion which can be drawn from this is that the Word of Allah, Isa, can never change – the Messiah is everlasting! In addition to this we are informed in the Qur’an that the Word of Allah is infinite as the following Surah suggests:

Surah 18:109
Say: “If the ocean were ink (wherewith to write out) the words of my Lord, sooner would the ocean be exhausted than would the words of my Lord, even if we added another ocean like it, for its aid.”

Surah 18:109 has been explained in the commentary book of Ali Ibn Ibrahim Qomi, and in the commentary book of Al-Burhan, narrated from Abi-Basir, from Imam Sadiq who said:

“I inform you that the Word of Allah has neither an end, nor has it finite, nor does it cause to eternity.” – Ali Ibn Ibrahim Qomi in Tafsir Al-Qummi, vol. 2, p.46, and Tafsir al-Burhan, vol. 2, p. 496

So from the mouths of those very respected Islamic Scholars we learn a most interesting fact about the Word of God. We learn that the Word of God is also infinite, which of course confirms the fact that it is indeed unchanging and eternal! I think it is abundantly clear here, that if the Messiah is being described as the Word of God, then He is both eternal and infinite both of which are exclusive attributes of Allah in the Qur’an. And if there is any doubt or rebuttal to this conclusion then please read these Bible verses below:

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

John 1:1, 2, 14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. The same was in the beginning with God.

2) Only Allah Is Equal to His Spirit

In the below Surah we learn that Allah pours out his spirit on his own believers:

Surah 58:22
Thou wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving those who resist Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Himself (roohin minhu). And He will admit them to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein (for ever). Allah will be well pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Truly it is the Party of Allah that will achieve Felicity.

This spirit is none other than Allah himself, because this same spirit displays omnipresence as it resides within all the servants of Allah at the same time according to the Qur’an. Omnipresence is an attribute which is exclusive to Allah, according to the Qur’an, as suggested by the Surah below and in many others (Surah 6:59; Surah 50:16):

Surah 58:7
Seest thou not that Allah doth know (all) that is in the heavens and on earth? There is not a secret consultation between three, but He makes the fourth among them, – Nor between five but He makes the sixth,- nor between fewer nor more, but He is in their midst, wheresoever they be: In the end will He tell them the truth of their conduct, on the Day of Judgment. For Allah has full knowledge of all things.

And if any Muslim is in doubt of this interpretation then please understand that this is not my interpretation but it is the interpretation of the Islamic scholars when they examine Surah 58:22:

“…Here we learn that all good and righteous men are strengthened by God with the holy spirit. If anything, the phrase used here is stronger, ‘a spirit from Himself.’ Whenever any one offers his heart in faith and purity to God, God accepts it, engraves that faith on the seeker’s heart, and further fortifies him with the Divine Spirit, which we can no more define adequately than we can define in human language the nature of God.” – Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Meaning of the Holy Qur’an, p. 1518, fn. 5365.

Now if Abdullah Yusuf Ali, Indian Islamic scholar, and many other scholars agree that this strengthening spirit is Allah, then why is it that Qur’an teaches that this same spirit is the Messiah?:

Surah 4:171
…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary and a spirit proceeding from Him (roohin minhu): so believe in Allah and His messengers…

From the above Surah, we learn that the Messiah is “a spirit proceeding from” Allah! The Messiah is a spirit! Not only a spirit but is the very same spirit that resides within all the believers of Allah mentioned in Surah 58:22. At this point, the informed Muslim may say that the Messiah was only a messenger made in the likeness of Adam and that God breathed in life into Adam and created Adam:

Surah 38:71, 72
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.”

But look at the vast difference between these two Surahs! In Surah 38:72, we see that Allah, “breathed into him of My [created] soul,” note well Adam was created through Allah’s breath but in Surah 4:171, we see that the Messiah was not even created but rather proceeded from Allah – there is a difference here. The Messiah must be equal to Allah! Why? I will explain, if God is holy, then His Spirit is holy and since the Messiah is the Spirit of God, then the Messiah is holy which is confirmed in Surah 19:19. And if both the Messiah and Allah are holy therefore they are one! Is it possible for a spirit to be divided? No, then we must conclude that the Messiah is one with Allah in the Qur’an. Please keep this point in mind as it completely explains why the Messiah can create and the reason why He displays all the attributes discussed in the rest of this article.

3) Only Allah Can Create

The Qur’an makes it clear in a number of Surahs (Chapters) that only Allah has the power to create (Surah 16:20; Surah 16:17):

Surah 6:102
That is Allah , your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.

Surah 15:86
Indeed, your Lord – He is the Knowing Creator.

Surah 22:73
O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for that purpose. And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.

Time and time again in the Qur’an, Allah claims that he is the true God and that only he has the power to create. In fact one of the 99 names of Allah is “Al-Khaliq” which means “The Creator.” Yet, the Qur’an tells us that the Messiah, Jesus, also has the power to create:

Surah 3:49
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah . And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

Surah 5:110
[The Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, “This is not but obvious magic.”

Some Muslims may say that the Qur’an teaches that the Messiah creates like Allah by the Arabic phrase “biidhnillah” translated here as “by permission of Allah,” sometimes as “by Allah’s leave.” Please do not get caught up by those phrases, which all share the meaning of the word “permission.” “Permission” means “the action of officially allowing someone to do a particular thing; consent or authorization.” For instance, I can give you permission to share this article, but that does not mean that you do not have the power to share it – you can do so even without my permission. Understand? Here we clearly see that the Qur’an actually implies that Jesus had already possessed the power to actually create life on His own, but merely was allowed to do so by Allah. Muslims, when they refute this idea completely mistake the meaning of the words “leave” or “permission” for another word “empowerment” which actually means exactly what they try to say “to give power to (someone).” But “biidhnillah” does not mean empowerment at all and as I have shown, it actually implies that Jesus possessed the ability to create to begin with.

Another troubling implication that arises from both Surah 3:49 and Surah 5:110, is that Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, possessed no ability to create, not even to heal others:

Surah 27:80
Indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they have turned their backs retreating.

Yet, Muhammad is declared to be the greatest of all prophets and was the “seal of the prophets (Surah 33:40).” Even though Jesus is described as merely creating a bird out of clay, size does not matter, this shows a principle – that if He was capable of doing this, then He was more than capable of creating man out of the ground exactly as Allah claimed to do:

Surah 38:71, 72
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.”

4) Only Allah Is Omniscient

The Qur’an consistently informs the reader that only Allah is all-knowing or omniscient, as the following Surahs suggest:

Surah 27:65
Say, “None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.”

Surah 6:59
And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.

We learn from Surah 27:65, that Allah is all-knowing, an attribute which is reflected in his name “Al-Basir” and “As-Sami” which means “The Seer of All” and “The Hearer of All” respectively. With respect to the second Surah above we learn that he claims to be both all-knowing and has the ability to see the future which is specifically implied by the phrase “it is written in a clear record,” which implies that these facts were written before they even occur, hence Allah knows the future. Now, Muhammad discouraged anyone who dare claimed that he had the power to know what was hidden:

Surah 6:50
Say, [O Muhammad], “I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me.” Say, “Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?

Even Muhammad recognized that if anyone hinted that they had the attribute of omniscience, then they would be claiming to be God:

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Yasar, from Qutailah, a woman from Juhainah, that a Jew came to the Prophet and said: “You are setting up rivals (to Allah) and associating others (with Him). You say: ‘Whatever Allah wills and you will,’ and you say: ‘By the Ka’bah.'” So the Prophet commanded them, if they wanted to swear an oath, to say: “By the Lord of the Ka’bah;” and to say: “Whatever Allah wills, then what you will. – Sunan an-Nasa’i 3773, Book 35, Hadith 13, English Translation Vol. 4, Book 35, Hadith 3804.

As such, it should surprise you that the Qur’an actually tells us that the Messiah is all-knowing:

Not only does Jesus, speak in the first person throughout the verse as one with authority but He even says that He “…informs you of what you eat…” embedded within that statement is the implication that Jesus knows the past, present and future. He also says that He knows, “…what you store in your houses,” which proves that He is all-knowing. Both of which are clear attributes of omniscience.

At this point a Muslim would object by saying that “Allah told Jesus what people ate and what they had in there homes.” But wait a second! In the Qur’an Jesus did not even say that Allah told Him this nor did Allah gave Him the permission at all! I have explained in my last point that permission does not necessarily mean that Jesus could not do such things with His own power. It is clear that the Messiah claims that He is all-knowing, the fact that Jesus speaks in the first person and the absence of the phrase “by permission of Allah” attached to this statement, strongly prove that Jesus had the attribute of omniscience and hence was God. The Bible actually has passages where Jesus demonstrated this power to strangers, foreseeing a fish which had a coin and even knowing what others were thinking:

John 4:17-19
The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

John 17:27
Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

Luke 5:20-22
And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

In fact, only the power of omniscience can make anyone remotely eligible to be a fair and perfect judge for every man and woman that ever existed, which brings me to my next point.

5) Only Allah Is Judge and Ruler

The Qur’an teaches that Allah is our Judge:

Surah 6:57
Say, “Indeed, I am on clear evidence from my Lord, and you have denied it. I do not have that for which you are impatient. The decision is only for Allah . He relates the truth, and He is the best of deciders.

Surah 7:87
And if there should be a group among you who has believed in that with which I have been sent and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allah judges between us. And He is the best of judges.

Surah 6:114
[Say], “Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?” And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters.

In fact some of the 99 names of Allah are directly connected to this role of Allah: “Al-‘Adl” which means “The Just,” “Al-Hakam” which means “The Judge,” “Al-Fattah” which means “The Just Ruler,” and “Ad-Dayyan” which means “The Requiter.” Based on all of these assertions it is clear that Allah is the only judge and ruler of mankind, according to the Qur’an. As I have mentioned in my last point only an omniscient being is capable to serve true justice to all mankind, which is an attribute that the Qur’an says belongs to Allah. Now, it should shock the Muslim to learn that Jesus also shares this role as a Just Ruler and Judge in both the Qur’an and the Hadith:

Surah 4:159
And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.

“By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the Son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler)…” – Excerpt of Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 55, No. 657; Fateh-ul Bari, Vol. 7, P. 302

The most startling thing to take from the verified Hadith above is that it describes Jesus as a Just Ruler which is actually one of the 99 names of Allah, “Al-Fattah.” No doubt an informed Muslim would say, “Jesus will be Judge because Allah will permit Him to.” If such is the case then shouldn’t the judge of all mankind also bear the attribute of omniscience? Oops! Jesus also has that attribute, if you had read my last point on omniscience. You must also note that He claims in the Qur’an that He is all-knowing without the permission of Allah so the ultimate conclusion is that He is also Judge without permission. Keep note in the above Hadith that Muhammad even said that his soul was in the hands of Jesus Christ! Shouldn’t our souls be in the hands of God? Surah 39:42 says that only Allah has our souls, but Muhammad says that Jesus also does too?

What makes this point even more curious is that both Allah and Jesus are described as returning on the clouds on the Last Day:

Surah 2:210
Do they await but that Allah should come to them in covers of clouds and the angels [as well] and the matter is [then] decided? And to Allah [all] matters are returned.

Acts 1:9-11
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Mark 14:62
And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man (Messiah) sitting on the right hand of power (God), and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Daniel 7:13, 14
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Jude 1:14, 15
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Do I really need to say more? All of these are not contradictions – Jesus and God must be one and the same person (John 10:30-33)!

6) Only Allah Is Healer

The Qur’an consistently tells us that only Allah is the healer:

Surah 26:80
And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.

Surah 6:17
And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good – then He is over all things competent.

Even Muhammad recognized that healing, in particular, is completely reserved for Allah alone as this verified Hadith indicates:

Whenever Allah’s Messenger Muhammad paid a visit to a patient, or a patient was brought to him, he used to invoke Allah, saying, “Take away the disease, O the Lord of the people! Cure him as You are the One Who cures. There is no cure but Yours, a cure that leaves no disease.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 5675, Book 75, Hadith 36, English reference Vol. 7, Book 70, Hadith 579.

However, we learn from the Qur’an that Jesus had the power to heal:

Surah 3:49
…And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah…

The term “…by permission of Allah” does not mean that Jesus was incapable of healing, for instance, I can give you permission to read this article, but that does not give you the ability to read it anyway. Also, I can give you permission to jump in front of an oncoming bus (please don’t), and you can but would you do it? So, the very fact that anyone has the permission to do anything, actually assumes that they already have the power to do it. As such, it is entirely possible that the Qur’an implies that Jesus, the Word of God, had the power to heal – a God-like attribute that even Muhammad, the seal of the prophets, did not have:

Surah 27:80
Indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they have turned their backs retreating.

One of the names of Allah is “As-Salam” which means “The Source of Peace” and is one of the first names invoked by Muslims for healing and peace in all areas of life. It should not surprise you that Jesus was prophesied to be The “Prince of Peace” and by extension was also Healer:

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7) Only Allah Has Power Over Life and Death

The Qur’an teaches that only Allah has the power to give life and death; the only one with the power to raise others from the dead:

Surah 15:23
And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

Surah 36:12
Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.

Surah 50:43
Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the destination

Some of the names of Allah actually addresses this attribute “Al-Muhyi,” “Al-Mumit” and “Al-Baith” which means “The Giver of Life,” “The Taker of Life” and “The Resurrector” respectively. But in this same Qur’an we learn that Jesus, the Word of God, rose others from the dead:

Surah 3:49
“…And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah…”

Once again a Muslim may get caught up in the idea that Jesus did this through God – which is not what “by permission of Allah” means – as I have demonstrated before the word “permission” does not imply that one is incapable of doing an act at all. In fact what may surprise you is that Ibn Kathir, on the most respected Islamic Scholars in history, within his book “Beginning and End,” told us an interesting story which actually proves that Jesus had the power to raise the dead:

It is told that Christ saw a woman crying over her daughter, who had died long ago. He asked her, “What makes you cry, woman?” She said, “My daughter died and I have no more children.” Christ asked her, “Would you like Me to raise her from the dead?” She said, “Yes, O Spirit of God!” So, Christ stood by the grave and called the girl three times. On the third time, the little girl came out and talked with her mother. Then the girl asked Christ to let her return. He told her, “Go back!” The grave closed and she was dead. – Beginning and End by Ibn Kathir, part 2, page 84, quoted in “Into the Den of Infidels,” Chapter 8, pp. 105-115.

So, from the above account we see a clear demonstration of Jesus’ power over both life and death. A fact echoed in the Bible by the very words of Jesus Christ:

John 10:17, 18
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

John 6:40, 44
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I (Jesus) will raise him up at the last day.
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

8) Only Allah Speaks In Parables

The Qur’an asserts strongly that only Allah talks in parables:

Surah 24:35
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.

Surah 14:25
It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.

If you are an informed Muslim, you would also be aware that one of the 99 names of Allah is “Al-Batin” which means “The Hidden One,” an attribute which is quite relevant to this point and point 9. It should not surprise you that Jesus Christ spoke quite often in parables or examples to deliver profound spiritual truths. By some estimates Jesus gave between 33 to 60 unique parables in the Bible! Many of them can be studied at your own leisure here. In fact the Bible prophesied in the Book of Psalms, that the Messiah would indeed speak in parables and this was fulfilled in Matthew 13:34, 35:

Psalms 78:1, 2
Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Matthew 13:34, 35
All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Within the very respected commentary on the Qur’an, “Al-Kashshaaf,” The authors tells us that Allah used parables to draw others onto himself, a fact which is alluded to in Surah 39:27 and the God of the Bible also hints this in Proverbs 25:2. By extension, if Jesus also used them to draw others to Himself, then isn’t Jesus claiming to be God?

A wise Muslim would probably object to this point saying, “Allah gave the parables to Jesus who then gave them to mankind.” I do not think so, Psalms 78:1 above easily refutes that claim – the Messiah clearly speaks with an authority like God, in part by the use of the phrases “words of MY mouth” and “MY law” – in fact the Law or Torah only belongs to Allah according to the Qur’an (Surah 4:136), yet this very same prophecy has the Messiah claiming that the Torah belongs to Himself. So, it is not far-fetched to conclude that the Messiah might be God after all.

9) Only Allah Can Escape From Our Vision

The Qur’an says this about Allah:

Surah 6:103
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.

We learn that Jesus actually displayed this attribute of Allah, from Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi, who told a story where Jesus was on a mountain and the Romans tried to arrest Him. He actually went right through them and they could not see Him, but He saw them all (“Sects and Denominations” by Al-Shahrastani, page 27). It should not shock the Muslim to realize that there are passages in the Bible where Jesus actually evades others by this gift:

John 7:28-30
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

John 8:58, 59
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 10:38, 39
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,

Luke 24:31
And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Jesus practiced this gift quite frequently and it must be noted that not once we learn that God was the One who removed Jesus, it seems that Jesus did this under His own power as suggested by John 8:59, “Jesus hid himself.” Now as Jesus displays this gift in the Bible and the Islamic scholars have stories of Him doing so, then it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus is God. This is indeed reasonable as all the above scriptures with the exception of Luke 24:31, describes incidents where Jesus claimed to be God, and the Jews knew this, and tried to kill Him for blasphemy; not treason:

John 10:33
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

10) Only Allah Should be Worshiped? The Qur’an Does Not Say That!

The Qur’an makes this startling statement:

Surah 9:31
They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah , and the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.

Worship and praise is very important to Allah, one of his names is “Al-Hamid” which means “The Praised One,” yet the above Surah says that both Allah and Jesus should be worshiped as Lord. Ibn Qutaybah, a Persian Islamic scholar, recognized that this was a very problematic verse for Islam because it puts worshiping both Allah and Jesus as a commandment. In order to evade the problem Ibn Qutaybah tried to make “the Messiah, the son of Mary” the ‘second object’ to the verb “taken” instead of being connected to the word Allah. What he failed to realize is that by doing this he was corrupting what the Qur’an clearly said!

There are stories documented by very reliable Islamic scholars which told that John, the Baptist known by the name Yahya, while in his mother’s womb was said to have bowed down and worshiped Jesus (Isa) while He was in Mary’s womb. The well respected Islamic scholar, Al-Qurtubi, tells us a story where Elizabeth (al-Yashbi), the wife of Zachariah (Zakariya) visited Mary while they were both pregnant:

“The sister visited Mary and said, ‘O Mary, do you perceive that I am with child?’ Mary answered, ‘Do you see that I am also with child?’ Her sister went on, ‘I feel the child in my womb bowing down to the child in your womb.’

Al-Qurtubi goes on to tell us that:

“It is reported that she felt the fetus in her womb bow down with its head turned toward Mary’s womb.” – Mahmoud M. Ayoub, The Qur’an and Its Interpreters, Volume II, The House of ‘Imran [State University of New York Press, Albany 1992], pp. 108.

Also Al-Tabari, the renowned Persian Scholar, had this to say:

“She [Mary] came to her sister who was then pregnant and to whom the birth of the Baptist had been announced. When the two met, the Baptist’s mother felt that her child was bowing within her in recognition of Jesus…” – History of Al-Tabari: The Ancient Kingdoms, translated by Moshe Perlmann, State University of New York Press, Albany, 1987, Volume IV, pp. 114.

The same account is also described here by Al-Tabari:

“…Her sister, the wife of Zechariah, came to visit her at night. When Mary opened the door for her, the sister clung to her. The wife of Zechariah said, ‘Oh Mary, do you know I am with child?’ Mary replied, ‘Do you know, that I too am with child?’ Zechariah’s wife then said, ‘I felt that the child in me was bowing to the child in you,’ as it is written, ‘confirming the Word of God.'” – Ibid., pp. 119.

This account is no doubt the account that we find in the Bible in Luke 1:41-47. And the Bible is riddled with instances like these where Jesus is worshiped by others:

Matthew 2:11
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Matthew 14:33
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 28:9
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

John 20:28
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

In all those instances and in many others Jesus received worship without stopping those from doing so, despite the fact that other servants of God never accepted worship in the Bible (Acts 10:25–26; Revelation 19:9–10). All of this is only possible if Jesus was indeed one with God, exactly as He told us:

John 10:30
I and my Father are one.

At this point a Muslim would correctly say that the Qur’an does not directly teach that the Messiah would be worshiped. First of all, the Qur’an teaches that the Messiah was basically a second Adam as Surah 3:59 suggests, if such is the case then wouldn’t the Messiah be worshiped by the angels exactly like Adam was in the case of the Surah below:

Surah 38:71, 72
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.”

According to the Qur’an, the angels must be bowing before Jesus, because both Jesus and the Angels are in Heaven (Surah 4:158; Surah 4:172; Surah 53:26). This theory is confirmed in the Bible:

Hebrews 1:6
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten (Messiah) into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

If this Adam and Messiah comparison still holds, then it is indeed quite possible that He is being worshiped by the angels right now.

11) Only Allah Can Send Messengers And Give Them Power

The Qur’an tells us:

Surah 36:13, 14
And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it –
When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, “Indeed, we are messengers to you.”

Ibn Kathir and many interpreters agree that this city was Antioch, and the men were all disciples of Christ. But the strange part is that Allah claims that He sent them. In the Bible we have an example where Jesus actually did the same where Jesus sent the disciples by twos and gave them authority to perform miracles:

Mark 6:7, 12, 13
And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

The key thing to take from the above verses is that it was Jesus who “gave them power” not God. A Muslim would say that it was Allah who granted the power all along, but no, the Old Testament prophets prophesied that the Messiah would give men gifts, and these verses in Mark Chapter 6 was a fulfillment of this messianic prophecy:

Psalms 68:18, 19
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

Ephesians 4:7, 8
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

It is clear that the Messiah is being described above as being God granting these gifts. A Muslim might object with, “Allah gave the gifts, through the Messiah.” If such was the case then Jesus would have failed this prophecy in the Psalms and would not have been the Messiah at all!

12) Only Allah’s Throne is Upon the Water

Surah 11:7
And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days – and His Throne had been upon water – that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed. But if you say, “Indeed, you are resurrected after death,” those who disbelieve will surely say, “This is not but obvious magic.”

Al-Qurtubi and El-Hadathi actually admitted that this verse also applied to Jesus, who was recorded to have walked on water in the Gospels:

Matthew 14:25-31
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

We learn from the account that Jesus actually tested His disciples, namely Peter, by walking on the water in the same way as Allah in the above Surah. We also learn from this account that it was Jesus, and not God who empowered Peter to walk on water, when Peter said, “…Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee…” and then Jesus said, “Come…” which actually confirms that it was the Messiah who gave the gifts which we discussed in point 11.

13) Only Allah Is Our Provider

The Qur’an says,

Surah 51:58
Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.

Surah 29:60
And how many a creature carries not its [own] provision. Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Surah 65:3
And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

Surah 2:245
Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.

In fact one of the 99 names of Allah is “Al-Razzaq,” which means “The Provider,” so this is very much an attribute which is claimed to be completely reserved to Allah alone. However, we find this precise attribute within Jesus Christ in the Qur’an. In addition to this, Ibn Kathir stated that Jesus had the power to give sustenance to whomever He wished. This is clearly seen in the Gospel accounts of Him multiplying food from the food offered to Him in a remarkably similar manner to Allah in Surah 2:245 above (with Allah receiving a loan to multiply it), a miracle which He performed twice!:

Mark 6:38, 41, 42, 44
He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
And they did all eat, and were filled.
And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

Mark 8:5-7, 9
And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

The Bible scholars believe that Jesus was imitating God, where God provided manna for the Children of Israel in the wilderness (John 6:31; Exodus 16:4, 14-36). To take this point a bit further Jesus actually declared that He was the Bread of heaven sent by God to give life to the Earth:

John 6:33, 35, 51
For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

At this point a Muslim will debate that Jesus is still not the Provider, that rather it is God who provide through Jesus Christ. I am not certain of this because it is prophesied that the Messiah will be Provider and if Jesus failed in this respect then He could not have been the Messiah. This is the messianic prophecy below:

Psalms 68:19
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

14) Only Allah is Unique

The Qur’an tells us that Allah is without equal:

Surah 42:11
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

One of the 99 names of Allah is “Al-Quddus” which means “The Pure One” a name which testifies of his matchless and unique nature in the Qur’an. With respect to Jesus Christ (Isa), every informed Muslim agrees that He is likewise unique like Allah. He entered this world through a virgin birth:

Surah 3:47
She said, “My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?” [The angel] said, “Such is Allah ; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.

Surah 19:20, 21
She said, “How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?”
He (Angel of Allah) said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.’ ”

Jesus is also said to be holy and sinless in the Qur’an:

Surah 19:19
He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy.

Jesus was the only man according to the Qur’an, who ascended body and soul into Heaven:

Surah 3:55
[Mention] when Allah said, “O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

Surah 4:158
Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

His physical body is still miraculously alive in Heaven, a fact that most Muslims agree with, and I will elaborate more on Jesus’ existence in Heaven in the next point. I have already covered in point 5, Jesus will return as a Judge for all mankind:

“By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the Son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler)…” – Excerpt of Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 55, No. 657; Fateh-ul Bari, Vol. 7, P. 302.

Finally, of all mankind only Jesus is described as the Word of God or the Spirit of God within the Qur’an, two titles that I have already discussed in points 1 and 2 respectively. No other prophet – not even Muhammad – was blessed with those titles:

Surah 3:45
[And mention] when the angels said, “O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary – distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah ].

Surah 4:171
… Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him

All of these amazing facts were surprisingly not bestowed upon Muhammad, the Final Prophet of Islam. And all of the other points contained in this article examines several traits that made Jesus Christ quite unique from other men. Nowhere does the Qur’an explain the purpose of Jesus being sinless or “distinguished” as Surah 3:45 puts it, or why He bears so many other remarkable characteristics that no other prophet possessed. I truly think that no Muslim can possibly deny that Jesus is indeed “Al-Quddus” – “The Pure One.”

15) Only Allah is Eternal

We learn from the Qur’an that only Allah is eternal and lives forever:

Surah 112:1, 2
Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;

Surah 57:3
He is the First and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent: and He has full knowledge of all things.

Some of Allah’s names reflect this nature – “Al-Hayy” and “Al-Qayyum” which means “The Ever Living One” and “The Self-Existing One” respectively. Yet we understand from the Qur’an that Allah lifted the Messiah unto himself, that the Messiah is still up in Heaven right now and that the Messiah will return on the Day of Judgement:

Surah 4:158
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;-

“By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the Son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler)…” – Excerpt of Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 55, No. 657; Fateh-ul Bari, Vol. 7, P. 302

Surah 43:61
And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.

Well, the most amazing thing is that the Messiah is somehow alive in Heaven right now! I have discussed towards the end of point 10 that Jesus is possibly being worshiped in Heaven by the angels as well. The Messiah has been alive for about 2000 years now, so why is Jesus still alive? Once again, this is not my interpretation but it is that of the vast majority of Muslims including Ibn Atiyyah, a respected Spanish Islamic Scholar, in his tafsir “Al Muharrar Al Wajiz”:

“All Muslim agree to have faith upon the content of hadith mutawatir (from plenty of valid chain of narrations) that Prophet Isa is still alive in heaven. He will descend at end of time, kill the hogs, break the cross, kill Dajjal, impose justice, and the religion of Muhammad will win over it’s enemies with his lead, and he also perform hajj…” – Al-Muharrar Al-Wajiz, 3:143.

Jesus is clearly demonstrating the attribute of being eternal, an attribute reserved to only Allah in the Qur’an! At this point an educated Muslim will say, “Jesus will come down on Earth and will die.” And I will admit that the Qur’an and Hadith do tell us this:

Surah 19:33
“So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)”!

Surah 4:159
And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his (Jesus) death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them;-

“The Prophet said: There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus… He will destroy the Antichrist and will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.” – Al-Tirmidhi and Al-Mawahib

Yes, Jesus dies in Islam, but as I have explained in point 2 above, Jesus is a spirit which proceeded from Allah according to Surah 4:171, and as such Jesus never truly dies. If the Messiah dies then we have a contradiction in the Qur’an! In addition to this, the Messiah is called the Word of God in the Qur’an, and as I have shown in my very first point in this article, the Word of God can not change but lasts forever. As such I am confident when I tell you that the Qur’an teaches that the Messiah is eternal. If you still wish to believe that the Word of God can cease to be, then think again:

An even greater implication that can be made is this – if Jesus is with Allah, as Surah 4:158 puts it, “…raised him up unto Himself,” then Jesus is in the presence of Allah! How can a man be in the presence of Allah and still live? The Qur’an and the Bible is clear that no man can see the fullness of God (Surah 6:102-103; Surah 42:51) and live (Exodus 33:20; John 6:46; 1 Timothy 6:15, 16), let alone dwell in Allah’s presence. So, no Muslim has the right to say that the Christians are wrong in saying that Jesus is one with God, as even the Qur’an implies that the Messiah was a spirit from Allah, wrapped in human flesh. If the Messiah is eternal, then can I prove His preexistence? Yes I can, which brings me to my next point.

16) Hints of Jesus’ Preexistence

As I have discussed in points 1 and 2, the Qur’an tells us that the Messiah is ‘the Word of Allah’:

Surah 4:171
…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers…

Allah send down his Word, so it is reasonable to say that the Word of God was once with God in Heaven based on the above scripture, which provides us a hint of preexistence of Jesus Christ. In addition to this we know from the Qur’an that Jesus was described as ‘the Spirit of God,’ as the same Surah says, that He is “a spirit proceeding from” Allah:

Surah 4:171
…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary and a spirit proceeding from Him (roohin minhu): so believe in Allah and His messengers…

This proof demonstrates a stronger sign of preexistence as the Messiah is described as a Spirit from Allah unlike the case of Adam who was a created soul. This idea that Jesus was a preexistent spirit is not a foreign interpretation or belief in Islam at all. In fact Ibn Kathir, gives the following report traced back by a single isnad to the Companion Ubaiy:

“The spirit of Jesus is one of the group of spirits with whom [God] took a pact in the time of Adam [cf. 33:7 and 7:172]. It is he, that is to say the spirit of Jesus, who presented himself to her in the form of a perfect human being. So she conceived the one who addressed her and he became incarnate in her [entering her through her mouth]. Despite its pedigree, Ibn Kathir dismisses this interpretation as reprehensible and supposes it to have been derived from the People of the Scripture.” – Tafsir ibn Kathir, pp. 161.

Yet, many of the early Muslims held onto the belief that Surah 4:171 implied that the Messiah had a preexistence. Not only preexistence, but as hinted by the phrase in the above quote, “…she conceived the one who addressed her…” some Islamic scholars has gone a step further to suggest that the Angel that delivered the message to Mary was probably not even Gabriel as many believe but was Jesus disguised as Gabriel:

“A majority of scholars hold the view that … (Spirit) refers to Sayyidna Jibra’il but some say that it refers to Sayyidna ‘Isa himself. Allah Ta’ala had placed before Sayyidah Maryam the likeness of the son to be born to her. But the former version is more appropriate and is confirmed by the statement that follows.” – Mufti Shafi Uthmani, Maariful Quran, Q. 19:16-21, Volume 6, p. 34.

There is an interesting comment made by a Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Leeds by the name, Neal Robinson, who was commenting on the contents of Surah 19:16-21. I will let him speak to you with his own words:

“Alternatively it might be thought (on the basis of Surah 4:171) that the Spirit who presented himself to Mary was none other than the Messiah to whom she subsequently gave birth. At first this seems improbable because of the way in which the Spirit refers to himself as a messenger. There is, however, an apocryphal writing which furnishes a precedent for identifying the agent of the annunciation with the Word who became flesh. This is the so-called Epistula Apostolorum which purports to be a letter addressed to the worldwide Church by the 11 disciples recording a conversation which they had with Christ after the resurrection. In the course of the conversation he told them:

‘At that time I appeared in the form of the archangel Gabriel to [the virgin] Mary and spoke with her, and her heart received [me]; she believed and laughed and I, the Word, went into her and became flesh; and I myself was servant for myself, and in the form of the image of an angel.'” – Robinson, “Christ In Islam and Christianity,” State University of New York Press, Albany 1991, Chapter 15. The Virginal Conception, p. 157.

All these proofs collectively lend credence that the Messiah had a preexistence in the Qur’an, of course, it is not the mainstream belief in Islam and will never be – as Islam adamantly will refuse and deny any evidence that ascribes God-like attributes to the Messiah. If Islam ever did, the religion would have more in common with Christianity and would possibly lose relevance.

17) Only Allah is the Most Gracious and Most Merciful

The Qur’an tells us that only Allah displays these traits:

Surah 2:163
And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Surah 19:93
There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.

Within the books, “Sects and Denominations” and “Proofs of Prophethood,” Al-Shahrastani and Azraki both discussed that the Messiah mirrored these traits while on Earth by healing the sick, curing the blind and lepers and spreading the gospel. In fact these scholars are correct with respect to this comparison because, the Bible prophesied that the Messiah will be gracious and merciful to others, this was prophesied in the following scriptures several centuries before the Messiah arrived:

Isaiah 61:1, 2
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

In fact Jesus once read this very same passage from the Book of Isaiah in the Gospel of Luke and declared that He fulfilled it:

Luke 4:18-21
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

It must be noted that Jesus did not quote all of Isaiah 61:2 in Luke 4:19, as He ignored the part which said, “…and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;” – that part of the prophecy will be fulfilled when He returns, a fact that Muslims and Christians agree will happen as I discussed in point 5. I would like to propose to the reader that it is through Jesus’ human nature and ability to relate with us, that makes Him the perfect candidate to serve mercy and grace as the Witness, Judge and Just Ruler on the Last Day.

18) Only Allah Commands Authority

The Qur’an states very clearly that Allah commands all authority:

Surah 16:40
Indeed, Our word to a thing when We intend it is but that We say to it, “Be,” and it is.

Surah 2:117
Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.

Even Christians would agree that it is only God who can call things into existence. If such is the case then why does Jesus demonstrate this attribute? The very first miracle by Jesus documented in the Gospel was the one in which Jesus transformed water into wine:

John 2:5-7, 9, 10
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Ibn Kathir, suggested that Jesus displayed this attribute of commanding authority when He performed this miracle (Beginning and End by Ibn Kathir, part 1, page 85). I would like to go even further into this, Jesus was indeed imitating God, because it was in six days that God created the Universe, here we see six stone pots filled with water. In addition to this the wine created from water was “good wine,” which implies that the wine was miraculously aged by Jesus Christ – we live on a young planet that has the features of old age – so Jesus mirrored even this minor aspect through this miracle. I explored more into the spiritual principles and lessons of that miracle here.

Even if a Muslim was to reject the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine in the Bible, they are still confronted with several miracles in the Qur’an which Jesus performed, including the first miracle of Jesus in the Qur’an, where He – while still a baby – was able to speak and defend His mother from the accusation of adultery and testified to others that He was a prophet (Surah 19:28-34):

Surah 3:46
He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous.

As I have explained numerous times in earlier points that “permission of Allah” does not mean that Jesus was empowered by Allah to perform these miracles. For instance, let us say that I had a son who wanted permission to borrow my car, does that mean that he can’t drive? No! The fact that my son asks for permission to drive my car proves that he has the ability to drive a car. With this same logic it is clear that Jesus, in like manner, did in fact had these abilities already. And those who still wish to be technical should carefully observe that in the Qur’an, Jesus never said that He got permission from Allah to speak while He was a baby or to inform others about what they ate and stored in their homes. In addition to all of this, the Messiah is returning as a Judge on the Last Day, according to the Qur’an and the verified Hadiths. So it is abundantly clear that Jesus does in fact demonstrate great authority.

19) Only Allah Has Glory

The Qur’an tells us that Allah has all glory:

Surah 57:1
Whatever is in the heavens and earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

We are also aware from the Old Testament, that Almighty God would not share His glory with anyone:

Isaiah 48:11
For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.

In spite of this, we learn from the Bible that Jesus shares glory with God and not only that but shared it before the creation of the world!:

John 17:5
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

In addition to all of this we know that God is light:

1 John 1:5
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Yet, we learn from the scriptures that Jesus claimed to be the light:

John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Revelation 21:22, 23
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb (Jesus) are the temple of it.
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

To make matters even more complicated Jesus, while with a few of His disciples, actually transformed before their eyes or was transfigured into a being of radiant light accompanied by the Prophet Elijah and Moses:

Matthew 1:1-6
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

2 Peter 1:16, 17
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

The Transfiguration of Jesus Christ is one of the most amazing and most telling events in the life of Jesus here on Earth (Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36). This event clearly gives us a glimpse of Jesus’ divinity – or at least dismisses the idea that He was merely just a man – and at least proves that the Qur’an is correct when it described Jesus as the Spirit of God and the very Word of God. He is the Word and the Bible even tells us, almost prophetically, that God’s Word would indeed be a light to mankind:

Psalms 119:105, 130
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Proverbs 6:23
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

John 1:1, 4, 5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

20) Only Allah’s Servants Will Prevail? Which Servants?

This is a very interesting proof so please follow this one closely:

Surah 3:55
[Mention] when Allah said, “O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you (Jesus) superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

Before I give you my understanding of this verse, I will give you the statements made by Ibn Kathir, who commented on this very same Surah above:

“This is what happened. When Allah raised ‘Isa to heaven, his followers divided into sects and groups. Some of them believed in what Allah sent ‘Isa as, a servant of Allah, His Messenger, and the son of His female-servant. However, some of them went to the extreme over ‘Isa, believing that he was the son of Allah. Some of them said that ‘Isa was Allah Himself, while others said that he was one of a Trinity. Allah mentioned these false creeds in the Qur’an and refuted them. The Christians remained like this until the third century CE, when a Greek king called, Constantine, became a Christian for the purpose of destroying Christianity. Constantine was either a philosopher, or he was just plain ignorant. Constantine changed the religion of ‘Isa by adding to it and deleting from it. He established the rituals of Christianity and the so-called Great Trust which is in fact the Great Treachery. He also allowed them to eat the meat of swine, changed the direction of the prayer that ‘Isa established to the east, built churches for ‘Isa, and added ten days to the fast as compensation for a sin that he committed, as claimed. So the religion of ‘Isa became the religion of Constantine, who built more than twelve thousand churches, temples and monasteries for the Christians as well as the city that bears his name, Constantinople (Istanbul). Throughout this time, the Christians had the upper hand and dominated the Jews. Allah aided them against them the Jews because they used to be closer to the truth than the Jews, even though both groups were and still are disbelievers, may Allah’s curse descend on them.” – Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Abridged), Volume 2, Parts 3, 4 and 5 (Surat Al-Baqarah, Verse 253, to Surat An-Nisa, Verse 147), abridged by a group of scholars under the supervision of Shaykh Safiur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri, Darussalam Publishers and Distributors Riyadh, Houston, New York, Lahore; First Edition: March 2000, p. 171.

Before I explore the interpretation of Surah 3:55, I need to clarify certain claims reported by Ibn Kathir which he admits to be “…as claimed.” The Qur’an teaches that God has no son, but then defines sonship as Allah taking a wife and bearing a son:

Surah 6:101
[He is] Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a son when He does not have a companion and He created all things? And He is, of all things, Knowing.

Nowhere does the Bible suggest that God had Jesus in this way as Surah 6:101 suggests and Christians would agree with Allah, that claim is indeed false. Jesus is the Son of God in the sense that He reflects God in every way, much like an earthly son resembles his earthly father (John 1:1-3, 14; Psalms 2) – Jesus is eternal and no Christian believes that Jesus was literally created by God through sexual reproduction – as the Bible easily refutes that. The Qur’an teaches a false trinity which is made up of Allah, Jesus and Mary (Surah 5:116), Christians would also agree that claim is false, we also do not believe that there are three gods (Surah 4:171) – all of those are very common misconceptions of Muslims. We believe in one God existing in three persons, and as such, we do not believe that God is the Messiah, it is more biblically correct to say that Messiah is one with God and that the true Trinity is Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Father, with them all being one God (1 John 5:7; Matthew 28:19). Allah is somewhat silent in the Qur’an concerning the true Trinity and never disproved the belief in the true Trinity. According to the Bible, Jesus had made certain things lawful (Mark 7:15-23; Acts 10:9-15), prayer was never directed towards Mecca (as Mecca appears nowhere in the Bible), and churches were built for God’s kingdom (Ephesians 2:19-21; 1 Corinthians 3:9-16) – none of these claims were made by Constantine, as Ibn Kathir said, but were from the Bible.

I agree with Ibn Kathir in that Christians are indeed blessed and in a sense “superior” as the Qur’an puts it, but Christians are not disbelievers in God – we actually agree with Allah that those statements in the Qur’an are indeed false, which I explained in the last paragraph. But I digress, Surah 3:55 is actually directed to the Christians, as we see that Allah is describing that it is those who follow Jesus will be made great until the Day of Judgement. This interpretation is confirmed by the following Surah:

Surah 61:14
O you who have believed, be supporters of Allah , as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, “Who are my supporters for Allah?” The disciples said, “We are supporters of Allah.” And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant.

Before you disagree with my interpretation of the above Surahs, please take a look at another renowned commentary, Al-Qurtubi, which comments on Surah 61:14:

“It was said that this verse was revealed about the apostles of Jesus, may peace and blessing be upon him. Ibn Ishaq stated that of the apostles and disciples that Jesus sent (to preach) they were Peter and Paul who went to Rome; Andrew and Matthew who went to the land of the cannibals; Thomas who went to Babel in the eastern lands; Philip who went to Africa; John went to Dac-sos which is the tribe to whom the sleepers of the cave belonged; Jacob went to Jerusalem; Bartholomew went to the lands of Arabia, specifically Al-Hijaz; Simon who went to the Barbarians; Judas and Barthas who went to Alexandria and its surrounding regions.

Allah supported them (the apostles) with evidence so that they prevailed (thahirin) meaning they became the party with the upper hand. Just as it is said, “An object appeared on the wall” meaning it is clearly visible (alu-wat) on the wall. Allah, who is glorified and exalted, knows the truth better and to Him is the return and retreat.” – Translated into English by Dimitrius.

So, nowhere does the Qur’an point out that it is the Muslims who would prevail, no, it is the Christians who follow Jesus Christ that will prevail. I must call to your attention that Paul, an apostle who is often ridiculed as the founder of Christianity instead of Jesus by the Muslims, is also included in this list in Al-Qurtubi as one who prevailed. Some Muslims try to debate that these Surahs say that Islam would prevail, but no it does not. These Surahs do not say that from the time of Muhammad the followers of God would prevail – but rather they say that it is from the time of Jesus that Christ followers would specifically be the ones to prevail. Any attempt by Muslims to squeeze Islam into those Surahs, only corrupts that clear message from the Qur’an. Where is the role of Muhammad in all of this? His role is silent in those Surahs despite being the Seal of the Prophets. Where is the relevance of Islam? These Surahs alone should open the eyes of Muslims, even now Christianity is still prevailing with growing numbers of Muslims becoming Christians, in fact the video below is the story of an Islamic scholar who left Islam after studying both the Bible and Qur’an, this scholar was also visited by Jesus personally! All of these are promised by Jesus to continue until the Last Day:

Matthew 28:19, 20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jeremiah 33:2, 3
Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name;
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

John 14:21, 23
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

“Do Whatever He Tells You”

In Cana of Galilee, about 2000 years ago, there was a wedding, which is documented in John chapter 2. At this wedding, Mary, the mother of Jesus was there and the Bible tells us that Jesus and His disciples were invited. Mary, who was probably helping out, noticed that the wine had ran out. As we all know she turned to Jesus and told Him this. Jesus responded, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.” At this point, I almost imagine Mary smiling at Jesus, confident that He will not forget the fifth commandment. She then turned to the servants at the wedding and said, “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” Such powerful words that every Christian should live by. But are we? Some of us have opted to pick and choose what to believe, while others in Christendom have completely abandoned His commands, this article highlights some of the areas where we often fail to obey our Lord:

1) Keeping the Sabbath

This is the very purpose for the video above, which calls us all to remember the Sabbath. There are absolutely no biblical reasons against keeping the Sabbath, rather there are several which teaches against it. Jesus by His very words says:

Matthew 5:17-19
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill it.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

We do not have nine commandments; we have ten! The very fact that God wrote these commandments on stone testify that they were meant to be kept throughout time. If we understand that we should obey the sixth commandment and not commit murder, and are horrified when some individuals slaughter others on the news, then how can we possibly be justified in abandoning the fourth commandment and even making Sunday the new Sabbath day. Some Christians believe that Jesus’ death had abolished the law but no, what Paul referred to as “the law,” was rather the mosaic laws for sacrifices and burnt offerings and this is made clear in the following passages:

Hebrews 10:6-9
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

sacrifice and burnt offerings to God
First of all, we learn that God never found pleasure in sacrifices and burnt offerings and I think that His displeasure was actually reflected when He spoke from the burning flames, which refused to consume the bush (Exodus 3:3) – which some Bible scholars believe was a thorny desert bush exactly like the thorns God cursed the ground with, due to original sin (Genesis 3:18). The bush was a symbol for sin, while the fire was God’s wrath – which was not being quenched (Ezekiel 38:19; 2 Thessalonians 1:8). Of course we also see that Paul defines the “law” not as the ten commandments but rather the laws on sacrifice and offerings for sins. Paul goes on to say in Hebrews 10:9, that Jesus “taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.” Well, what was the first? The first was what Paul described as “…Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings…” What was the second that Jesus established? The second was an “offering for sin.” So, Jesus did not come to abolish the Law to give us Grace, as the Grace teachers on television like to tell us, – humanity always had Grace, after all it is by God’s grace that Jesus died for our sins – Jesus came to end the need for us to uphold the laws of sacrifice and burnt offerings for sin. These sacrificial laws, which were written on perishable paper,  were what Paul had been referring to as “the law” in his epistles; not the ten commandments, written on stone, which was why Paul was able to confidently say, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified (Hebrews 10:14).”

How important was keeping God’s commandments to Jesus? Here is what He thinks:

John 14:21
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

If we truly love Christ then we would obey Him. I am sure that neither I nor this video may stir some of consciences of those who might read this, so I will end this point with one last statement – I do not want my prayers to be an abomination:

Proverbs 28:9
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

2) Lack of Fasting

Fasting should be a very important part of the Christian’s walk with Jesus Christ. It may be a surprise to you that soon after Jesus gave us the “Our Father” prayer and taught us how to pray in Matthew 6, He immediately began to discus the best fasting practices that we should keep:

Matthew 6:16-18
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Note well that Jesus did not say “if you fast,” He said, “when you fast” as if He actually expects us all to fast, and I think it was no accident that He spoke on fasting after the prayer that He gave us, this shows how important fasting should be to our prayer lives. According to the verses above, when we fast, we should not look sad or starved to make it clear  to others that we are fasting. Those who do so, are actually looking for the admiration of other men while they fast, and as such, they “have their reward.” I am sure that you are well aware that some Christian denominations and even some of those of the Islamic and Hindu faiths actually have time periods dedicated to fasting. Is the fasting done by these people acceptable to God? The Christians who fast at fixed times all declare to the world that they are entering their fasting period, so they have already received their reward as Jesus says. The other world religions fast in vain, as they do so to demons – even the Muslims, the scriptures make it clear:

1 Corinthians 10:20
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Moses praying
Now, what is the true purpose of fasting? It is all about preparing oneself to be humble before God, and I think the psalmist makes this clear:

Psalms 35:13
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

So why is it important to humble ourselves before God? Again the scriptures makes it clear that God only hears the cries of the humble:

Psalms 10:17
LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

So, I hope that you understand now, that fasting is not some magic spell to force God to answer us, but rather it helps to humble ourselves so that we can be prepared to approach God in prayer. Some Christians like to say that they would fast only if God tells them to, but D. L. Moody, a famous evangelist, wonderfully explained, “If you say, ‘I will fast when God lays it on my heart,’ you never will. You are too cold and indifferent to take the yoke upon you.” With that in mind, I will ask the question: Are you hungry for God? Before you answer that question, I will close with this quote from John Piper, a Christian theologian, “The absence of fasting is the measure of our contentment with the absence of Christ.”

3) Loving Traditions Rather Than God’s Commandments

Christendom is so divided today and I believe that it is our obsession with traditions which deserves some of the blame. Jesus, our Master and Teacher, makes it clear that He hates tradition:

Mark 7:7-9
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Many of us have become complacent where the commandments of God is concerned, we have reached a place where it is perfectly fine to bow down to idols and graven images when the Bible makes it clear, “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images (Isaiah 42:8).” Also what is unknown to many is that Jesus actually condemns the use of repetitive prayers and contemplative prayers –  both practices are becoming more and more popular:

Matthew 6:7, 8
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

The more surprising thing about Matthew 6:7 is that Jesus made that remark immediately before He gave us the famous “Our Father Prayer” in Matthew 6:9-15.  I am absolutely convinced that our Lord knew that in the future, some of His children would abuse this prayer among others and thus He saw it fit to give us this warning. I am sure that some undoubtedly will object to this interpretation claiming, “My prayer to God is not vain repetitions!” Before I answer that, do you know that many of the false religions around the world use prayer beads and also pray repetitive prayers? This is absolutely true! Muslims use prayer beads called the masbaha, tasbih or sibha. Hindus also use prayer beads called the japa mala. Buddhist tend to use either the juzu, shu zhu or seik badi and even the Baha’i faith uses prayer beads. All of them say repetitive prayers or words to each bead of their prayer beads. Many of these practices were established before the founding of Christianity! As such one is forced to conclude that the use of prayer beads and reciting repetitive prayers are actually very pagan practices and God commands us to never follow the ways of the heathen:

Deuteronomy 12:30, 31
Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.

prayer beads are pagan
If you are involved in this particular tradition and refuse to give it up, I would like to at least warn you, even more of how serious this matter is in God’s eyes, “For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy…(Leviticus 11:44; 1 Peter 1:16).” Being holy means being separate and set apart, as such, the similarity between the repetitive prayers and use of prayer beads  in some Christian denominations to the traditions of the world should raise red flags. These red flags should provoke us to have faith in God rather than faith in our Faith.

As you may see now, there is absolutely no biblical supports for many of the traditions which we hold onto; rather the Bible seems to go against these traditions. Furthermore, the Bible actually makes it clear that it has all that we need for salvation:

Isaiah 8:20, 22
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

Proverbs 30:5,6
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

2 Timothy 3:16, 17
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Acts 20:20
And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Traditions are irrelevant and I think this is clearly evident in the life of Jesus Christ. Remember what Jesus said while He was tempted by Satan, during His fast in the wilderness? Each and every time that Satan tempted Him, He declared, “It is written!” and then would proceed to quote verses from the scriptures! Note well, Jesus never leaned on tradition to fight off Satan, nor did He use some formulated ritual; His hope was in the scriptures, to defend Himself against the temptations. I think that the Bible consistently shows that Jesus agrees with the Sola scriptura doctrine! If we truly call ourselves Christ followers, then we too would follow in His footsteps and lean only on the holy scriptures, and not add words to them in the form of tradition:

John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Deuteronomy 12:32
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

What is the Ultimate Lesson Behind Jesus’ First Miracle at the Wedding of Cana?

Charles Spurgeon, one of the most influential preachers of recent memory, when asked about the fundamental lesson behind this miracle answered in this way,

“…whenever we get a command from Christ it is always wisdom to carry it out zealously. He said, ‘Fill the waterpots with water,’ and they filled them up to the brim. You know there is a way of filling a waterpot, and there is another way of filling it. It is full, and you cannot heap it up; but still you can fill it up till it begins almost to run over: the liquid trembles as if it must surely fall in a crystal cascade. It is a filling fullness. In fulfilling Christ’s commands, my dear brethren and sisters, let us go to their widest extent: let us fill them up to the brim. If it is ‘Believe,’ oh, believe Him with all your might; trust Him with your whole heart. If it is ‘Preach the gospel,’ preach it in season and out of season; and preach the gospel—the whole of it. Fill it up to the brim…If you are to repent, ask to have a hearty and a deep repentance—full to the brim. If you are to believe, ask to have an intense, absolute, childlike dependence, that your faith may be full to the brim. If you are bidden pray, pray mightily: fill the vessel of prayer up to the brim. If you are to search the Scriptures for blessing, search them from end to end: fill the Bible-reading vessel up to the brim. Christ’s commands are never meant to be done in a half-hearted manner. Let us throw our whole soul into whatever He commands us, even though, as yet, we cannot see the reason why He has set us the task. Christ’s commands should be fulfilled with enthusiasm, and carried out to the extreme, if extreme be possible.”

I could not have said it any better than Charles just did! Let us go out and obey whatever God tells us to the uttermost! And await that glorious day  when He tells us, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Christianity vs. Hinduism Debate Dave Hunt vs. Dr. Budhendranauth Doobay

The above video is a debate held at All Saints Catholic High School, Ontario, Canada. The moderator is Michael Coren, an author, public speaker, TV talk show host and radio host. The late Dave Hunt was a Christian apologist, speaker, and world renown author. Dr. Doobay is one of the top leaders and philanthropists in the South Asian community in Canada. He was born in Guyana and is the founder of Voice of the Vedas stationed in Canada. Dr. Doobay makes a lot of claims and points in this debate, I promise to explore several of them in future posts, but for now I would like to discuss his points on Karma and Reincarnation:

1) Karma and Good Works
2) Reincarnation and Past Life Regression

1) Karma and Good Works

Many believe that the law of Karma can be supported by the Bible, this is far from the truth. There are several instances in the scriptures where the Bible actually brutally assaults any notion that Karma is real. The Law of Karma basically says that when one does good, the same is rewarded with good done unto him or her, on the other hand, when one does evil the same has evil done unto him or her. The Bible actually presents several scriptures that pokes holes through the law of Karma like Psalms 126:5 which presents contradictory ideas:

Psalms 126:5
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Luke 16:19, 20, 25
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

The same is painted in the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man above, where the rich and wicked man lived a life of excess and happiness while Lazarus who was righteous and good, lived a life of poverty and sickness, even though this was merely a story it is still diametrically opposed to the concept of Karma. One of the greatest arguments against the law of Karma is presented through Jesus life here on Earth. Christians and even Hindus will agree that Jesus Christ was a righteous, good teacher and spiritual leader and as such, should have stored up only good Karma. Shouldn’t He? Well why did He die? Here we have a perfect human being who died one of the most bloodiest deaths imaginable, crucifixion is so brutal that a new English word was invented to convey the agony, the word “excruciating.” Surely the definition of Karma can never explain the reasons for His death and even Dr. Doobay, in this debate could not provide any reasonable answer to this dilemma. Thankfully for us Jesus during His life gave us a glimpse into how this was possible:

John 9:2, 3
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

John 9:2,3 occurred just before Jesus had cured the blind man of His sight. When questioned by His disciples as to the origins of the man’s blindness, we learn that the Jews of that day held the position that evil was only brought upon others through their own sins and the sins of their forefathers, but Jesus reveals that it was God who allowed this to happen for the greater good and demonstration of His power. Note well, that Jesus in a sense admits that evil can come upon others through sin, however, He explains that it may indeed be allowed by God Himself. This answer given in John 9:3, is the precise answer as to why Jesus, this perfect man, was allowed to die in such a way, it was God using Jesus as a means to demonstrate His power and love for us. This brings me to my next point on how God can influence good and allow evil in our lives but it must be made clear that God is not the author of evil in our lives:

James 1:13-15
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

As the scripture above and John 9:2 points out that oftentimes the bad things in life is the direct result of sin and iniquity in our lives; not due to some kind of impersonal force or self propelled law called Karma which Hinduism would like us to believe. God does not punish the innocent but He does punish the guilty for their sins:

Job 4:8, 9
Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
Proverbs 22:8, 9
He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

We learn from the last two verses that there is a direct correlation between iniquity and the just punishment of God. So, the Bible does not paint the idea of Karma that rewards evil with evil and good with good, rather it says clearly that it is God that is at the heart of it all and as the judge of the universe, it is Him who rewards us accordingly. Another thing that further divorces the idea of the law of Karma, is God’s forgiveness. In spite of evil being performed once an individual shows genuine repentance it is possible for the punishment of that evil to be completely overlooked by God:

Ezekiel 18:20, 21
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Karma does not show any mercy when punishing or rewarding others, once evil is done it is rewarded with evil no matter what, however, the God of the Bible teaches us that evil that is committed can be repented of and exchanged with mercy, which is of course against the amoral workings of Karma. Even well meaning Christians may fall victim to the belief that the Bible supports the law of Karma by quoting Galatians 6:7:
Agriculture concept, wheat in hands and green field

Galatians 6:7
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Then, they proceed to say that this verse is proof that the Bible supports Karma, when it does not. Galatians 6:7, is taken out of context here, it is only when one reads it along the following verse, verse 8, that we can grasp the true meaning of the verse:

Galatians 6:8
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

So, you may realize now that Galatians 6 verses 7 and 8 speak on the spiritual matters, it uses the term “flesh” the same word defined by Paul in Galatians 5:19-21 as being the works of sin and iniquity.  It speaks on the matter of God rewarding sin with punishment and righteousness with eternal life in the same way that Job 4:8-9, Proverbs 22:8-9 and Ezekiel 18:20-21 does; it does not support the idea of an impersonal law that rewards good deeds with good and evil with evil in this life. Another verse which is often taken out of context is the one that became the basis of what we know as the “Golden Rule” which is Matthew 7:12, “Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you.” However, I will show you now that this is not another biblical support for Karma at all and reading the verses before Matthew 7:12 will clarify this:

Matthew 7:9-12
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

So, the Golden Rule, is not a proof of the law of Karma, it is simply a law given by God for us to learn to be more like Him. Jesus encourages us to love each other and do good for the express purpose of pleasing and emulating our Heavenly Father; He never encourages us in Matthew 7:9-12 to do good with the expectation of receiving good in turn, never does He say this and this is reflected by His own words in Luke 6:35, 36:

Luke 6:35, 36
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Biblical Christianity teaches us that we are not saved by good works, salvation is a gift given to us by God:

Ephesians 2:8, 9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It is should be clear to you now that the Bible truly never supports any notion of Karma whatsoever. If you had read this entire point you would learn that it never does support it but consistently goes against it. Therefore, Karma is completely incompatible with the Bible in every way and a Christian can never hope to reconcile this view in eastern mysticism with his or her biblical beliefs.

2) Reincarnation and Past Life Regression

I will just jump now into what the Bible has to say concerning reincarnation. The Bible, almost by design, seems to consistently oppose the very idea of reincarnation in every way as if it actually anticipated the rise of this idea. Paul had this to say concerning the matter:

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Some debate that the above verse does not teach against reincarnation but it does, the verses just before and after this verse disposes the claims that Jesus Christ was the reincarnation of Buddha or Vishnu or some other famous spiritual leader:

Hebrews 9:26, 28
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

And as to what this “judgment” in Hebrews 9:27 is, 2 Peter 2:9 explains it as being either sent to Heaven or being reserved for punishment in Hell, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.” 2 Timothy 4:18 also helps us understand that this “judgment” can indeed be interpreted as either a reward for the righteous and punishment for the wicked, “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Even the apocryphal books of 2 Esdras and the Wisdom of Solomon both follow this very consistent theme that the accepted canon of the Bible agrees on:

2 Esdras 14:34, 35
Therefore if so be that ye will subdue your own understanding, and reform your hearts, ye shall be kept alive and after death ye shall obtain mercy.
For after death shall the judgment come, when we shall live again: and then shall the names of the righteous be manifest, and the works of the ungodly shall be declared.

heaven or hell

Wisdom of Solomon 15:17
For being mortal, he worketh a dead thing (idols) with wicked hands: for he himself is better than the things which he worshippeth: whereas he lived once, but they (idols) never.

Wisdom of Solomon 16:14
A man indeed killeth through his malice: and the spirit, when it is gone forth, returneth not; neither the soul received up cometh again.

Even if one completely denies the message echoed through Hebrews 9:27, there are several other verses of the Bible which all oppose the idea of reincarnation. This can clearly be said of Job 14:10-12, which uses imagery to help convey the idea that every man has only one life to live:

Job 14:10-12
But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

Jesus Christ, who claimed to be God and thus knew better, denied the idea of reincarnation of the soul in Luke 23:43 when He talked to the good thief on the cross, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Note well that He says today “you will be with me in paradise,” He does not say that the thief and Himself would be reincarnated into other bodies that day. And ironically 2 Esdras 14:9 also seems to support this exact statement made by Jesus, “For thou shalt be taken away from all, and from henceforth thou shalt remain with my Son, and with such as be like thee, until the times be ended.” So, it seems that Jesus, who is well respected in many Hindu and New Age circles, does not support reincarnation at all. The informed New Ager or Hindu may no doubt object by claiming that Jesus taught reincarnation and they often use John 3:3 to support this claim:

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

But this is not true, Jesus actually elaborates what He said in John 3:3 in John 3:5, 6: “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Jesus is the one who gives us rivers of living water as John 4:14 points to,  “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life,” so Jesus is the source of this “water” which He mentions in John 3:5. This “Spirit” that Jesus points to is the baptism and indwelling of the Holy Spirit of the Heavenly Father which was prophesied in Ezekiel 36:27, “And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” So, Jesus explains that being born again is only done through the indwelling of Himself and His Heavenly Father in the individual. This interpretation is confirmed when one reads the following verse “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him (John 14:23).”

Some also present the argument that John the Baptist was actually the reincarnation of the Prophet Elijah, but this is simply not true. They often turn to Luke 1:17, which says, “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias (Elijah), to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Because John the Baptist had the spirit and power of Elias or Elijah it does not mean that he was Elijah’s reincarnation, not at all. In 2 Kings 2:9 we learn that Elisha was given the “spirit of Elijah” even though both Elijah and Elisha was still alive and well, “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” I explore this particular debate about John the baptist in greater detail in another article here.

The Bible never seems to support reincarnation but it supports the resurrection. Reincarnation and the resurrection are two opposite doctrines; they both logically can never be true, because resurrection needs the human soul and if at death the soul finds a new body for reincarnation, then resurrection is impossible and the opposite is true. After all Jesus and the many other people who were dead and was resurrected in the Bible were all resurrected within their same bodies; not reincarnated into other bodies. In any case the Bible further points out that the souls of the righteous are in Heaven even as we speak, exactly as Jesus suggested to the good thief in Luke 23:43:

Revelation 6:9-11
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

jesus and his saints in heaven
The above verses raises two fundamental points that there is a finite number of souls that God has created on this Earth and that each soul are clearly unique from each other. This is the same line of thinking that is echoed in the apocryphal book of 2 Esdras, a book which is allegedly written by the Old Testament prophet Ezra:

2 Esdras 4:35-37
Did not the souls also of the righteous ask question of these things in their chambers, saying, How long shall I hope on this fashion? when cometh the fruit of the floor of our reward?
And unto these things Uriel the archangel gave them answer, and said, Even when the number of seeds is filled in you: for he hath weighed the world in the balance.
By measure hath he measured the times; and by number hath he numbered the times; and he doth not move nor stir them, until the said measure be fulfilled.

Some New Agers and Hindus make the claim that Early Christianity especially members of the Gnostic church who used some of the Apocrypha books believed in the idea of reincarnation but this may not necessarily be the case at all! One of the books that they may have used was 2nd Esdras, which consistently paints this theme that even the Gnostics may have held on to a resurrection view as opposed to a reincarnation view:

2 Esdras 5:41-48
And I said, Behold, O Lord, yet art thou nigh unto them that be reserved till the end: and what shall they do that have been before me, or we that be now, or they that shall come after us?
And he said unto me, I will liken my judgment unto a ring: like as there is no slackness of the last, even so there is no swiftness of the first.
So I answered and said, Couldest thou not make those that have been made, and be now, and that are for to come, at once; that thou mightest shew thy judgment the sooner?
Then answered he me, and said, The creature may not haste above the maker; neither may the world hold them at once that shall be created therein.
And I said, As thou hast said unto thy servant, that thou, which givest life to all, hast given life at ONCE to the creature that thou hast created, and the creature bare it: even so it (the Earth) might now also bear them that now be present at once.
And he said unto me, Ask the womb of a woman, and say unto her, If thou bringest forth children, why dost thou it not together, but one after another? pray her therefore to bring forth ten children at once.
And I said, She cannot: but must do it by distance of time.
Then said he unto me, Even so have I given the womb of the earth to those that be sown in it in their times.

So, even these books which have not been proven to be inspired by God all do confirm with the rest of the accepted canon that reincarnation is simply not true! I must put this disclaimer out there that I am not necessarily endorsing the apocryphal books at all. Some may object with another claim that reincarnation has been scientifically proven, even if it was, the evidence for it is very negligible. “Science” in the Oxford dictionary, is defined as “The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.” Science studies the “structure” and “behaviour” of phenomena in the physical world. So, do not be deceived by those who claim that science has conclusively proven the supernatural (non-physical) experiences circulating the reincarnation debate. Dave Hunt, founder of The Berean Call (TBC), in this short video below explains that even though some of the cases of past life regression may seem credible, they are very unreliable:

We cannot place our complete trust in personal experiences and the testimonies of past life regression as it opens one up to embrace deceptions. There is such a thing as absolute truth and through the application of absolute truth we can distinguish lies from reality. The Bible warns us that:

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Sir John Eccles who received his Nobel Prize for research on the brain, described the brain as “a machine that a ghost can operate,” so it is entirely possible that the spiritual experiences that one may have could be implanted by the demonic spirits of this world during hypnosis and altered states of consciousness. As such we certainly can never reliably confirm reincarnation by these means. As I said earlier reincarnation and resurrection are diametrically opposed to each other and both can never be true at the same time. It is important to note that resurrection has been proven by thousands of confirmed cases throughout the world. Either reincarnation is true or resurrection is true but the evidence supporting resurrection seem to have a lot more scientific merit because one can scientifically observe the life signs of those who died via vital signs monitors and through secondhand means of verification like death certificates. I strongly encourage you to do research on the resurrection cases that have been documented throughout the world and you will learn that there seems to be mountain of evidence supporting the resurrection which makes the reincarnation allegations look like an anthill. Try this simple rough test right now, Google “reincarnation testimonies” or just “reincarnation” and then ” resurrection testimonies” or just “resurrection” and you will see the number of results and will know that there is some truth here.

Do All Paths Lead To God?

Are there many ways to God? Oprah Winfrey certainly thinks so, on her television show, she responded to a Christian guest with this, “One of the mistakes humans make – is believing that there is only one way…and many paths to what you call God…there couldn’t possible be just one way!” Well what does the Bible have to say about this? My video above explains what the Bible thinks on this matter. I will cover a few points that were not mentioned or were just narrowly touched by the video:

1) All Religions Are The Same
2) Christianity is just another revelation from God
3) Christians are narrow-minded to think that Jesus is the Only Way

1) All Religions Are The Same

The Bible differs from many of the world’s religions on this point.  First of all the Bible condemns acts of violence in the name of religion:

Matthew 5:43-44
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

The above verses right away eliminate the idea that God approves of violence, sets up Islam and many other violent religions to be diametrically opposed to Biblical Christianity. The Bible goes on to further suggest the features of true religion in the verses below:

James 1:26, 27
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Micah 6:8
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

So from the verses above we learn the following elements of pure religion in God’s eyes- control of one’s words and actions, honesty, concern for the sick and destitute, forgiveness, humility and  finally abstinence from ungodly behavior. Satanism at its core endorses pride, selfishness and sin above all else and fails in every aspect of pure religion outlined above. On the other hand, Hinduism, upholds a few of the elements but teaches that the sick and destitute are reincarnated into those conditions due to bad Karma and to help them would actually be a sin, which actually explains why India is in the state of financial instability as it is now. The Bible also makes mention that there is only one God, while Hinduism and Buddhism suggests that there are many:

1 Corinthians 8:5, 6
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Isaiah 42:8
I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

man at crossroads
It is clear that there are fundamental differences between Biblical Christianity and the world’s religions. Yet there is a popular saying that persists in spite of these differences: “all religions are fundamentally the same and only superficially different,” but now I hope you understand that  it would seem that “all religions are superficially the same and fundamentally different.”

2) Christianity is just another revelation from God

This argument is often presented by those of the Islamic and the Bahá’í Faith.  With respect to Islam, the claim is that the Qur’an is the final revelation delivered by God to mankind through its prophet Muhammad (Surah 29:46; Surah 4:47). In another article I show in great detail how Allah is not the same as the God of the Bible, so this idea that the Qur’an is the final revelation to follow the Bible is already not at a good start. There are simply too many serious issues when one attempts to connect Islam as a revelation from the True Living God like the fact that Islam teaches that Jesus is not God (Surah 4:172; Surah 5:73; Surah 9:30), that Jesus never died or was ever crucified (Surah 4:158) and that He was not the Son of God when there is historical, biblical and archaeological evidence that says otherwise.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have the  Bahá’í Faith which basically tells us that all religions are revealed by the same God. The Bahá’í Faith was heralded by a John the Baptist type figure in 1844, called Báb, whose name means “Gate,” in Persia now called Iran.  It was Bahá’u’lláh, whose name means “Glory of God,” a Messiah type figure, clarified the revelations of Báb, organized the message of the new faith and from there, the  Bahá’í Faith was born. The  Bahá’í Faith teaches that Bahá’u’lláh’s arrival fulfilled the prophesied Second Coming of Jesus Christ and that he is the messiah-type figure that all the world’s religions are expecting. The Bahá’í Faith also dictates that the world religions were all revelations sent by God, that God reveals Himself every few centuries by sending prophets called “Manifestations of God” to usher in a new religion and that the last few revelations from God to the world reflects His nature more clearly than older ones. This finally brings me to my point, if such is the case then why does the god of the Bahá’í Faith revealed himself in such contradictory ways over the history of mankind? Like the curious fact that Hinduism and Buddhism embraces polytheism when the god of the Bahá’í Faith is a monotheistic god. In any case, the Bible makes it clear to us that the words of the God of the Bible never changes:

Psalms 119:160
Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

Luke 21:33
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

If such is the case as the two verses above show, then the god of the Bahá’í Faith would have concluded all revelations with Christianity shouldn’t he? This doctrine of the Bahá’í Faith makes the all-knowing Creator of the universe appear to be schizophrenic with multiple personalities. The Bible prophesies the very opposite of “progressive revelation” in the Last Days, it warns us that there will be rampant growing deceptions, that there will be many false Christs, and that the world will plunge into a great deception:

2 Timothy 3:13
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Matthew 24:24
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

I think it is strange that the god of the Bahá’í Faith revealed Christianity, a faith alleged to have been designed by this god, that warns its followers to reject any future “revelations” from other religions and to reject people who claim to bear another message or gospel from the true living God:

Galatians 1:6-9
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have received, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

The inconsistencies with the Bahá’í Faith does not end there, not by a long shot! The world headquarters for this religion is the Bahá’í World Centre, located at Mt. Carmel in Israel. Informed Christians who hears the words “Mt. Carmel” should be alarmed, as this was the very same site that the Bible prophet, Elijah, faced the false prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18:17-46. The world headquarters also overlooks the valley of Megiddo where the war of Armageddon is fated to occur. The Battle of Armageddon is a final war, prophesied in the Bible (Revelation 16:14), where the entire world gathers itself united as one to fight against the Lord Jesus Christ when He returns to this Earth in the Second Coming, and I am deliberately telling you this, because one of the Bahá’í Faith’s goals is to gather all the world’s religions under one single religion. As you now understand it is quite suspicious that the Bahá’í Faith’s world headquarters is built overlooking that future battlefield:

Revelation 16:14
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

The Bahá’í Faith further shows itself as being, quite possibly as one of the latest stratagems of Satan since its new members require identification cards and identification numbers from the religion, which eerily foreshadows the Mark of the Beast mentioned in Revelation 13:16-18. To enter the  Bahá’í Faith you need to actually be interviewed, which is completely against the God of the Bible who wills that all be saved and come to the truth unopposed (1 Timothy 2:3, 4). The Bible teaches that the world will indeed come together under one banner of peace exactly as the Bahá’í Faith plans to do, however, the Bible teaches that this peace and unity will be short lived (Daniel 8:25) and the united movement will be destroyed just like the first attempt of the world’s people to unite under a one world government and one world religion at the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1-9. After all, the Bible tells us that there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

bahai peace and NWO

1 Thessalonians 5:2, 3
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

There are many other erroneous facts that most certainly does not help the argument for progressive revelation, for more information on the secrets on the  Bahá’í Faith you may read a few of the posts by this blogger and the folks at Jesus Is Savior. In light of all this, to a genuine truth seeker, it is difficult to even contrive that the God of the Bible is the same as the god of the Bahá’í Faith and like me you may consider that this movement may very well be the prophesied one world religion that the Book of Revelation warns Christians about.

3) Christians are narrow-minded to think that Jesus is the Only Way

This is misplaced because it is not Christians who say that Jesus is the only way to God; it is the Bible that makes this claim. But before I get into the Bible’s claim that the path outlined by it is the only way to God, I would like to explain the concepts of Absolute Truth and Relativism.

What is absolute truth? A certain person defines it in this way: “it is inflexible reality: fixed, invariable, unalterable facts.” Now let’s look quickly at the definition for relativism which is defined as: “truth, morality and knowledge that are relevant only to a certain culture, society and historical period,” in other words, it is not absolute truth. A simple example of absolute truth is 2 + 2 = 4. Now, what if everyone in the entire world gathers together and say, “Let’s make 2 + 2 = 5 instead!” And everyone celebrates this change by shouting, “Hooray! 2 + 2 = 5, cool we all finally agreed on something!”  Even if everyone agrees does it make that decision correct? Of course not! 2 + 2 = 4 and will always be 4. No matter how hard the world would like to make it 5, that is relativism, it still does not change the fact that 4 is the mathematically correct answer.

Just as absolute truth governs the rules of mathematics, it governs the laws of physics like gravity – what goes up must always come down, absolute truth governs everything. By this simple proof we see that absolute truth is fixed throughout the physical universe, now shouldn’t it also be true in the spiritual realm. The God of the Bible claims to be the father of all spirits and rules within the spiritual realm (Hebrews 12:9), then who else should we turn to for absolute spiritual truth for He is a God of Truth (Psalms 43:3; Psalms 25:5). God verifies Himself through fulfilled prophecies (Isaiah 46:9, 10) mentioned here in this article and through proven scientific facts shown in my article here, which eliminates the notion of the Bible being written by mere men but by an all-knowing and all-powerful God who is outside of the limitations of time. Since God is consistently correct in stating scientific facts and fulfilled prophecy then it must follow that He must also be correct about the rest of the content of His book, the Bible. Jesus who claimed to be this God of Truth makes the following statements:

Matthew 7:13, 14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

In the above verse Jesus informs us that there are actually two paths- a wide gate that leads into destruction and a narrow gate that leads to eternal life and God. Christianity is the only religion in the world that states this, even Judaism and Islam teaches that all paths eventually lead to God (Surah 11:123). I hope you understand now that it is incorrect to say that the Bible is narrow-minded, as it highlight two destinations, not one. The question now is how to travel on this narrow road or path to the true God? Jesus once again answers this question for us in the following verses:

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:9
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The God of Truth knows all absolute truth, He has always been correct when predicting the future through prophecy and has used scientific insights that only He would have known (as men never had the technology to verify them in the past until now), now this same God tells us that Jesus is the way to Him. We are faced with two simple decisions now are we to accept this or reject this message? Truth is absolute, even if we reject truth, it will always remains true, remember my analogy, 2 + 2 will always be 4, no matter how much one would like it to be 5. Now this question may pop up in the heads of Hindus, Muslims and even those of the Bahá’í Faith: well what about the previous revelations and religions that existed before Christianity began? Are they true or are they examples of man-made relativism? Jesus once again gives us the answers here:

John 10:7, 8, 10
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

So, Jesus indicates to us that all the religious systems and their founders that came before Him did not arrive to deliver absolute truth, but to deliver relativism, which would mislead others into death and destruction as it is not based on absolute spiritual truth. The God of the Bible further discourages us from even adopting any of the practices of these religions like yoga and many others:

Deuteronomy 12:30-32
Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

1 John 4:5-8
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

I would like you now, if you are not Christian or even if you are Christian, to dedicate or rededicate your life to Christ. You may learn more on how to find this narrow road that Jesus tells us to travel in this article, Salvation is a free gift that God gives us all.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Want to learn how to get to Heaven? Well you will need a very long ladder, because the truth is that we do not “get” to Heaven, it is our Heavenly Father who “takes” us there and this is what the video above explains. The Creator of the universe is a holy and just God and because He is so holy, His standards are perfect. The Bible explains to us that the righteousness of men in God’s sight is as “filthy rags”:

Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

The Bible goes on to say that the punishment for our imperfections or “sins” is death and eternal separation from God:

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death

So, mankind is faced with this dilemma, and we inherited this imperfection from Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, where the first humans sinned against God, which is recorded in Genesis Chapter 3 of the Bible. Just as genes can be passed down through a family tree, this “original sin” has been passed down to us as the Bible explains:

Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

To remedy this imperfection or “sin nature” that we all possess, our Heavenly Father has given to us His personal ambassador; a mediator; His own Son, Jesus Christ, who is willing and able to bridge the gap between mankind and God. The Bible reveals to us exactly how the Lord Jesus Christ did this:
jesus on the cross

Isaiah 53:5
But he (Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
1 Peter 2:24
Who his (Jesus) own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree (cross), that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Yes, through Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection, which is documented in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, all men who believe in Christ can now be reconciled to God and upon death can have fellowship with God in Heaven instead of being sent to Hell, a place of eternal punishment:

Matthew 25:46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Once we accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and believe in Him as the video above explains we are comforted with the assurance of eternal life:

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

But as the Romans 8:1 indicates we must “walk not after the flesh.” Well what is the “flesh” described in the Romans 8:1? Thankfully, the writer of Romans, Paul, defines for us what this “flesh” is in his letter to the Galatians:

Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

So, to receive true salvation we must do two things, first of all we must believe and have faith in Jesus Christ which is gained by reading God’s Word, the Bible as Romans 10:17 says:

Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Secondly, we must turn from our old ways and avoid the past sins which we practiced before knowing Christ. God has provided His Holy Spirit to empower us with the means to not stumble in sin anymore:
the holy spirit

Ezekiel 36:26, 27
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

So, please pray this prayer and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour right now:
“Heavenly Father, as I come into you presence now, I forgive all those who have ever sinned against me Lord and release myself from all the pains and bitterness of the past that others have inflicted upon me. Father, I ask now that You, in turn, forgive me now of all my sins against You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God, the Creator of the Heavens, Earth, the Seas and all that is in them. I believe that Your Son died for my sins and rose from the dead and is seated now at your right hand. Heavenly Father, I turn away from all my sins, I pray that You will pour out Your Holy Spirit upon me and empower me to avoid sin. I also pray that You will release me from every addiction that has power over me and from every demonic influence in my life. Father please release Your holy angels to protect me from every danger and I pray that You will heal my mind, my spirit and my body from every form of sickness and disease. I pray this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer and meant it, then you are now a child of the Most High God, the Lord is faithful and true and has now forgiven you of all your sins and you are now guaranteed the chance to live with Him forever! It is your duty now to grow as a new Christian by reading the Bible, praying and serving the Lord God with your life. We all must live holy lives and abstain from all sin, but even if you and I fall short and sin, do not panic for the God’s Word tells us that:

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John 14:13-15
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Welcome to the Kingdom of God my brother or sister! I pray now that the Lord blesses you and strengthens you to remain faithful to Him! Remember to Pray Hard, Keep Watch, Stand Firm, Be Ready, Finish Strong and Overcome!!  Amen!

Christianity vs. Atheism Debate Dave Hunt vs. Professor Christopher diCarlo

The video above is a debate that was held at All Saints Catholic High School, Ontario, Canada. The moderator is Peter Koropatwa who has a Master degree in Apologetics. Dave Hunt is a Christian apologist, speaker, and world renown author. Professor Christopher diCarlo is an instructor at the University of Ontario and is an outspoken activist for critical thinking, humanism and secularism. He was once a Roman Catholic who then became an Atheist.

The popular claim of atheists is that, “The Bible cannot be trusted, it is not a science book. Shouldn’t Science be the one to determine absolute truth (big ‘T’ Truth)?” Well my response to that is yes, the Bible can be trusted. I will admit it does not go into copious scientific details but when it talks about science it is always correct. I will demonstrate here 20 scientific points outlined by the Bible which Dave Hunt did not mention in his debate. I will warn Atheists this, if you navigate and read through all my points you will find it hard to cling to Atheism anymore:

1) The Earth is Hung By Nothing

1) The Earth is Hung By Nothing:

Job 26:7
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

This is interesting because  during the same time that Job was written many cultures around the world suggested that the world sat on elephants which all stood on a world tortoise (the Hindus) or that the Earth was held up by the titan god Atlas (the Greeks). The Egyptians even believed the world was suspended by five massive poles. In 1608, Sir Isaac Newton, a Christian, theorized that the Earth was suspended by nothing in space. Job was written over 3000 years ago, the fact that the world is hung by nothing was confirmed by Astronauts only in 1961.

2) Earth is Round:

Isaiah 40:22
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.

The Bible describes the Earth as a “circle,” we all of course know that the Earth is slightly spherical but there was no Hebrew word for “spherical” or “sphere.” The Hebrew word for “circle” used here is “Khoog.” God is omnipresent and from his perspective the Earth would indeed appear as a circle to Him at all angles. The Bible, while limited by vocabulary, still successfully showed that the Earth is like a sphere and I will explain how. If the Bible indicated that the world was a “flat circle” then, the Earth would have two shapes it would look like a “circle” in one view and also like a “line” (“flat”) in another view. However, the Bible only says “circle” which shows that the Earth has to be circular from every perspective which is a very clever way to convey the meaning of spherical in spite of the vocabulary limitation.

The Bible further refutes the “flat circle” idea when one considers what it tells us in Job 26:10:

Job 26:10
He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

The above verse clearly describes what we know as “terminators” in astronomy, which are a twilight zones which separates the day side and night side of planets. As such this verse confirms that the Earth is round in nature. Of course, I have one more proof to share with you, which further confirms that the Bible says the Earth is round:

Revelation 9:2
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

For those reading this, who thinks the Bible says the Earth is flat, think again! Because the Bible tells us that the Earth has a “bottomless pit.” What is a bottomless pit? In geometry, a “bottomless pit” is a term synonymous to “the center of a sphere.” From a sphere’s center all directions are up and hence theoretically fits the description of a bottomless pit. As such, we see that the Bible once again indirectly confirms that the Earth has a spherical nature. It must be noted that for every proof, it avoids the error of saying that it is a perfect sphere – so I am astonished at how God cleverly avoids this error. The fact that the Earth is round was also confirmed by Astronauts in 1961.

3) The Universe is Flat and Expanding:

Isaiah 44:24
Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Isaiah 40:22
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.

The Bible repetitively states that God stretches the heavens out  in Job 9:8;  Job 26:7; Job 37:18; Ezekiel 1:22; Isaiah 40:22; Jeremiah 51:15; and many more verses. The oldest sources of this fact in the Bible is over 3000 years old, but science has only recently discovered that the universe is expanding. Edwin Hubble in 1929, discovered that the universe is in fact showing signs of expansion. Scientists also believe that the universe is thin in one dimension, in other words, flat. I find this interesting because the heavens in the Bible is sometimes described as a “curtain” and we know that curtains can be stretched but more importantly is flat. I would go further on to say that the “curtain” and “tent” descriptions subtly show that the universe is also in fact finite as point 7) will show, as an infinitely long curtain or large tent is not possible.

4) The Sun has an orbit in Space:

Psalms 19:6
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Scientists laughed at the above verse because it seemed to suggest that the sun moves around the earth, which we know is not true. But they failed to recognize that the motion is not relative to the Earth in the above verse but rather the “heaven.” Science have proven now that out sun has an orbit in space and is not stationary which is a very common misconception. The sun travels at about 600,000 miles per hour within a “circuit” exactly as described in the Bible.  It was Thomas Wright in 1750 who first suggested that the sun has an orbit which was further elaborated by Immanuel Kant in 1755. The book of Psalms made this claim over 3000 years ago! How did the author know this?

5) Pleiades and Orion’s Belt:

Job 38:31
Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

This verse makes two points that a)  there are bonds between the seven stars of  the Pleiades and b) that the three stars of Orion can be “loosed.” The first point has been recently proven by scientists; there are gravitational forces between the stars of the Pleiades.  What we see as seven stars is actually a collection of 250 suns all bound together in the same orbit and drifting in the same south eastern direction in space. Pleiades are bound together much like a school of sardines in the ocean and precisely has the relationship that the Bible indicates. From Lick Observatory Dr. Robert J. Trumpler says, “The Pleiades stars may thus be compared to a swarm of birds, flying together to a distant goal.”

With respect to Orion’s belt, scientists have made calculations that in time the two right-hand stars Mintaka and Alnilam will approach to each other and form a naked-eye double.  While the third star, Alnitak, will eventually drift away to the east and thus “break the band” of Orion’s belt. Therefore this verse has a dual meaning to it; it is actually a fact and a prophecy at the same time.

6) The Anthropic Principle:

Isaiah 40:12
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Isaiah 45:18
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

The anthropic principle states that universe shows signs of design which seems to be tailored with mankind and all life in mind. This was the conclusion after a half century of astronomy and physics which shows that laws of physics and the constants display signs of fine-tuning to ensure that man can live. A simple example of this is the position of the Earth from the sun; not to far and not too close just right. There are many other examples of anthropic principle, for instance, one can look no futher than water. Water is the one of a handful of natural substances that when solid can actually float upon itself, a property which makes it possible for fishes to survive in frozen lakes under sheets of ice. This principle was first popularized by the comments of Robert Dicke in 1961, thousands of years after the Bible made this claim.

7) The 1st law of Thermodynamics:

Genesis 2:1, 2
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

The 1st law of Thermodynamics simply states that energy cannot be created nor be destroyed; that the energy throughout  the universe is finite and fixed. Well the verse above in simple words infer the same meaning. It was Rudolf Clausius and William Rankine who first coined this law in 1850, thousands of years after the Bible indicated that the universe and its energy is finite and constant.

8) The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics: Entropy:

Psalms 102:25, 26
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

The 2nd law of Thermodynamics state that entropy or decay is on the rise throughout the universe as energy is wasted and as matter is dispersed. This law is often accredited to Nicolas Carnot in 1824 . Once again the Bible presented complex modern science in relatively simple words and imagery.

9)  We live in a Digital Simulation!:

Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

The Bible from the verses above when read carefully convey the meaning that this is not the real world; that we  are rather living in a fabricated reality, just like “The Matrix” trilogy. The fact is that scientists, specifically the quantum physicists, have determined that the universe is in fact a complex hologram or an elaborate digital simulation. They came to this conclusion after the double slit experiment and observing that electrons behave as a wave or particle depending on the influence of the observer of the experiment (termed  Wave Function Collapse). This is a truly fascinating discovery, I encourage you to watch this clip for more on this:

10) Air has Weight:

Job 28:25
To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

It was always taught that air has no weight to it. However, the Bible verse above clearly indicates that it does. Science in ancient times classified air as an element called “Aether,” which is Greek for “fresh air,” this substance was for a very long time was assumed to be weightless. It was in 1640 that Evangelista Torricelli discovered that air in fact does have weight, which is exactly what the Bible says.

11) Light behaves as a particle and a wave:

Job 38:19
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

It was only in the 17th century that men described light as being waves or particles. Christiaan Huygens was one of the first to propose the wave nature of light, which is confirmed by phrase “the way” in the verse above. On the other hand, Isaac Newton was the one who proposed that light exists as a particle which is also insinuated by the Bible’s use of the words “dwelleth” and “place” as if light has a fixed or stationary nature to it (locality). It is through Albert Einstein and the “Particle-Wave Duality” in the 20th century that both opposing theories became true; that light was proven to behave as a wave and particles.  Is it just a coincidences that the Bible got the nature of light right for both natures of light? I don’t think so, the odds of that would be astronomical, pun intended.

12) The Formation of Wind Patterns and the Coriolis Effect:

Job 38:24
By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

The Bible above obviously suggests above that the light creates the winds on the Earth. This is proven true by science: the hot air over sunlit places rises and cold air moves in to fill the gap, thus wind is produced. The jet stream was discovered by Wasaburo Oishi in 1920s. The most interesting thing about this is that at the same time the Bible indicated that light caused winds on Earth other cultures like the Greeks claimed that their god Aeolus blows upon the Earth to create winds. Strange enough, this same culture that produced such an absurd claim is the same one that provided the discipline of philosophy (from Plato, Aristotle and Socrates) still taught  today and accepted, while the Bible proven time and time again is rejected.

Ecclesiastes 1:6
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

The above verse clearly and accurately describes the Coriolis effect which explains the origin of wind pattern and more significantly defines them as having “loops” just as the Bible correctly uses the word “circuits.” The Coriolis effect was named by its founder Gaspard-Gustave Coriolis in 1835, however, the term was only applied  in meteorology in the early 20th century.

13)  Springs of the Sea:

Job 38:16
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

This above verse was for a very long time mocked and laughed at by skeptics until the 23 foot long submersible called “Alvin” with 3 geologists inside discovered hot springs at the bottom of the ocean in the Galapagos Rift in the Pacific Ocean. The springs were rich in Chlorine and minerals and its plumes extended as far as 13m high.

14)  The Water or Hydrologic Cycle:

Amos 9:6
It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.

Job 36:27, 28
For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

Ecclesiastes 1:7
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

It is obvious to anyone with sense that these verses all perfectly describe what we call the Water Cycle. The Bible wrote this over 3000 years ago, long before this fact became popularized by Bernard Palissy in the 16th century.

15)  Anticipation of Microbes, Bacteria, Viruses and Diseases:

Leviticus 15:13
And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.

God establishes the laws of cleansing oneself with clean running water to the Israelites. At the same time this was happening, the Egyptians used oils and scents made from the burnt remains of plants and animals, that only masked the odor. So, Moses was not inspired by the traditions of men but by the wisdom of God Almighty. These practices was founded thousands of years before disease causing microbes like bacteria were discovered by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek in the 17th century. These cleansing laws were invented long before viruses were even discovered in 1892 by Dmitri Ivanovsky.

16) The institution of Quarantine Procedures:

Leviticus 13:45, 46
And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

The above sounds as a carbon copy of the quarantine practices of our modern day. In fact, the Europeans used these procedures between 1348 to 1359 to combat the spread of the Black Death. In fact the word “quarantine” comes from the Venetian word “quaranta” which means “forty” which was the number of days that ships were required to remain isolated in order to avoid the spread of the Black Death. Informed Christians know the significance of the number forty in the Bible. If you are not aware of the significance of this number please read this. This is a clear instance where science has applied the teachings of the Bible – of course it will never admit that this practice originated from the Bible.

17) Life is in the Blood:

Leviticus 17:11, 14
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

The Bible once again proves a fact which is well accepted by science. The blood serves various purposes but one of the major ones being the means to deliver oxygen to the cells throughout the body via the red blood cells. Red blood cells were discovered in 1685 by Jan Swammerdam and hemoglobin, that facilitates the oxygen carrying property in blood, was discovered decades later. In fact George Washington , the first US president, who was suffering from a throat infection died  in 1799, because of bloodletting, an archaic and unbiblical medical “cure” practiced by guess who? The Greeks.

18) The Bible knew the ideal time for Circumcision and its benefits:

Genesis 17:12
And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

It is a proven scientific fact that the 8th day is the ideal day to perform surgeries in babies. The 8th day is the day where the prothrombin and vitamin K, both involved in the coagulation of blood, are at above average levels, making the cut heal faster. How can Moses possibly know this? Trial and error? With trial and error he would have had dead babies on his hands! Another interesting fact is that circumcision  has been shown to reduce the risk of STD transmissions by half! These are all remarkable proofs that the Bible is certainly inspired by an all knowing God; not man.

19) Electricity can send messages?:

Job 38:35
Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

The verse above is perhaps one of the most telling verses in the Bible, as it implies that electricity can be used to send messages. Guess what? The Bible is right once again! The very first electrical message was successfully sent by Francis Ronalds’ primitive electrostatic  telegraph which was perfected by Pavel Schilling, who made the electromagnetic telegraph in 1832. This may be considered as another prophetic verse.

20)  Bible talks about Dinosaurs:

Job 40:15-17
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

The above is a clear description of a dinosaur possibly a brontosaurus or maybe a titanosaurus. In any case, God must be describing a living animal which Job had to be familiar with. Some may debate that this may be an elephant or a hippo but this verse demands common sense, none of those animals have tails that remotely behaves or  resembles a cedar tree! Evolutionists will of course attack this verse as it makes the additional implication that mankind lived with dinosaurs as recent as Job’s time which was a little over 3000 years ago. Even if you deny the above verse there are still several other verses that describe dinosaurs even with known animals of today: Leviathan (Job 41:1; Psalms 74:14;Psalms 104:26; Isaiah 27:1), Unicorns according to the Bible sounds more like a dinosaur than the stereotypical mythical horse we know (Numbers 24:8; Psalms 92:10; Job 39:9-12; Isaiah 34:7) and Pterodactyls (Isaiah 14:29; Isaiah 30:6). More Dinosaurs scriptures ( Deuteronomy 32:33; Job 30:29; Psalm 91:13; Isaiah 34:13; Isaiah 43:20; Jeremiah 14:6).

Just to go a little more into Evolution, nothing takes God by surprise, the Bible actually makes a remarkable prediction that the Last Days will have false scientific ideas being taught:

1 Timothy 6:20
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.

I hope that you understand now that the Bible is indeed a text which is worthy of study, these are just a handful of biblical truths confirmed by science. Since the Bible is correct when discussing scientific matters then it can, by inference, be reliable when it discusses about God, and His plan to use His Son, Jesus Christ as the means to save humanity. We all need to accept God’s word. The Bible states that Jesus existed, Jesus claimed to be God in the Bible, therefore God does in fact exist and Christians serve a Living God.

Psalms 33:4
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

The History of the Emergent Church Movement

The film above originally called, “The Real Roots of the Emergent Church,” was produced by Elliott Nesch of Holy Bible Prophecy Ministry, it features the major leaders of the Emergent or Emerging movement like Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones, Rob Bell, Tony Campolo, Steve Chalke, Peter Rollins, Dan Kimball, Richard Rohr, Phyllis Tickle, Spencer Burke and others. This film also features many respected evangelists and Christian apologists who speak out against this postmodern movement.

The Emergent Church, as the film above shows, is filled with mysticism, it enthrones spiritual experiences above the Word of God, exchanges the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ for a gospel of works and traditions and discards many of the pivotal doctrines of Biblical Christianity. Jesus has this to say about mankind’s traditions:

Mark 7:9
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

catholic icons
Many of the practices done in the Emergent Church have roots in paganism like practicing yoga, using prayer beads, lighting candles, using icons and labyrinths. God desires us to be holy and to never practise anything that heathens do:

Jeremiah 10:1-3
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
For the customs of the people are vain

Deuteronomy 12:31, 32
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

The Bible prophesies that in the last days there will be a great falling away or apostasy in Christendom, and many Bible scholars and teachers are convinced that the Emergent Church is a part of this great falling away:

2 Thessalonians 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

If anyone truly wants to serve the Living God, he or she must abandon all these philosophies and traditions of religion and turn to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; the path to God is not paved by having faith in one’s faith but by simply having faith in Jesus Christ:
prayer beads are pagan

Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

God is a spirit, we must all worship Him in spirit and in truth, such traditions and practices are useless when trying to serve the Lord. Moreover, physical representations of God in the form of idols and icons are all meaningless to God as He is non-physical and nothing physical can ever hope to depict a non-physical spirit being:

John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

If you are Christian and truly desire to please the Lord, well then read the Bible because it contains His Words which are filled with life. You must also obey His commands if you truly love Him:

Hebrews 10:7
Then said I (Jesus), Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me (Jesus).

John 14:21
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

I would like to close this post with this surprising quote from an even more surprising source, Mahatma Gandhi:

“You Christians look after a document containing enough dynamite to blow all civilization to pieces, turn the world upside down, and bring peace to a battle-torn planet. But you treat it as though it was nothing more than a piece of literature.”
